    Sailing Instructions for Smith Point Race

    SMITH POINT RACE

    JUNE 22, 2002

    DESCRIPTION

    This event will consist of distance races for PHRF SPIN, MORC and NON-SPINNAKER classes starting near Mosquito Point in the afternoon on Saturday June 22, 2002, and finishing outside Jackson Creek. The full moon will be June 24, 2002.

    PROGRAM

    A skipper’s meeting will be conducted by radio on VHF Channel 72 with the Race Committee at 1300 hours, if possible. Dock, anchor, or raft in Fishing Bay or Jackson Creek after finishing for non-FBYC participating yachts.

    Warning Signal

    The warning signal for the first class will be at 1400 hours.

    STARTING AREA

    The starting area will be in the vicinity of Mosquito Point (RR Lt "8R" Fl R 2.5s 5m). The starting line will be between a special buoy "X" and the orange or yellow flag on the Committee Boat. All competitors should check in with the Race Committee boat by 1345 hours.

    COURSE

    The first mark of the course will be either (1) special buoy "Y" or (2) a government mark listed in Appendix A. The identity of the Windward Mark and the approximate magnetic course from the Committee Boat shall be displayed on the course board on the Committee Boat below the designated course. After rounding the special buoy "Y" or the government mark, boats shall sail the remaining marks of the Course set forth below.

    FINISH LINE

    Between Piankatank R. Lt. "6" Fl R 6s (FBYC "B") and the orange or yellow flag on the Committee Boat stationed north of FBYC "B". If the Committee Boat is not on station at the finish, leave FBYC "B" to port, and take your own time when you are within 25 yards of FBYC "B" and it bears 180° magnetic from the helmsman’s position, and if possible record the names or sail numbers of the boats finishing immediately ahead and behind you. This information should be passed along to the Race Committee Chairman as soon as possible after returning to the dock.

    TIME LIMIT

    24 hours for all classes; boats finishing after 1600 hours on Sunday, June 23, 2002 will be scored DNF.

    AWARDS

    Time of awards presentation will be determined and communicated to competitors.

    CBYRA SANCTION

    This race is sanctioned for CBYRA High Point awards.
