OPENING DAY REGATTA

APRIL 12 & 13, 2003

DESCRIPTION

This event will consist of up to 3 races on two days. The planned format will consist of one race around government marks on Saturday, April 12 and one or more round-the-buoys races (PHRF Spinnaker and MORC) or one race around government marks (Non-Spinnaker) on Sunday, April 13. Depending on existing and forecast conditions, the Race Committee may elect to run additional races on either day to insure sufficient races are completed for the series.

PROGRAM

On Saturday, April 12, the Blessing of the Fleet will begin at 1600 hours, followed by awards and refreshments provided by FBYC. Dinner and entertainment will begin at 1830 hours. On Sunday, April 13, awards will be presented and refreshments will be provided by FBYC immediately following the races.

Skipper’s
Meeting

For Saturday, April 12, ONLY, there will be a Skipper’s Meeting at 0930 hours, at the flagpole adjacent to the Jackson Creek parking lot to review any changes to the GSIs and SSIs for the offshore races.

Warning Signal

The warning signal for the first race each day will be at 1100 hours.

Subsequent races

The Race Committee will signal its intention to run additional races by displaying Code Flag "R" at the finish line. If Code Flag "R" is flying at the finish, competitors who have finished should remain in the vicinity of the Committee Boat, but keep clear of the finish line until their new starting sequence has commenced. Code Flag "R" will be lowered with a sound signal one minute before the Attention Signal (Code Flag "F") is signaled for the next race of the day. The warning for the first start will be five (5) minutes after the Attention Signal is hoisted. The Attention Signal will be lowered with a sound signal one (1) minute before the Warning Signal. The starting sequence will be the same as for the first race.

COURSES

These course instructions apply to all races. It will be the responsibility of the skipper to locate the Committee Boat. It could be anywhere from Piankatank R. G "5" (FBYC "A"), to Piankatank R. Lt. R "2" Fl R 4s (FBYC "F") or beyond.

If conditions warrant, the Race Committee will fly Code Flags "F" over "B" when leaving the dock and hail on Channel 72 indicating its intention to race in Fishing Bay and the adjacent Piankatank River.

The starting and finishing lines will be between the orange or yellow flag on the Committee Boat and either a government mark listed in Appendix A, special buoy "X", or a drop-mark pursuant to Appendix D.

Courses for the Non Spinnaker class shall, to the extent practicable under the conditions, utilize government marks to produce courses which offer a variety of points of sail and are not limited to windward/leeward courses.

TIME LIMITS

If one boat in a class finishes within two (2) hours after the start for that class, or if one boat in the Non-Spinnaker Class finishes within three (3) hours after the start for that class on a day when the other classes are racing two races, then the race will be valid for all boats in that class.

SCORING

The Opening Day Regatta winner in each class (i.e., PHRF SPIN, MORC, or NON-SPINNAKER) will be the boat having the lowest total point score for the series. A boat may qualify for winning regardless of the number of races she has started. There will be no throwouts for this series.

CBYRA SANCTION

Each race in the Regatta is sanctioned as a separate event for CBYRA High Point awards.
