The Parent's Race is coming up on Tuesday, June 17. This is a fun opportunity for parents of junior week sailors and other sailors to get out on the water for some fun mid-week sailing. We'll sail right off the dock in Fishing Bay.
We welcome anyone interested in sailing a laser or 420 to come out and join us. For anyone who does not have a boat, we will do our best to find one for the evening. Jon will help find boats, so send an email to jon-fbyc@jdeutsch.com if you are in need of a boat for the evening.
In order to get as many people on the water as possible we will be taking out the club lasers as well as the 420's. If anyone has a laser at the club that they will not be sailing and would be willing to loan it for the evening, please email Jon at jon-fbyc@jdeutsch.com.
The racing will be around a short course using rabbit starts. For anyone unfamiliar with rabbit, starts, we will have a review at 5pm on the back porch.
The first whistle warning will be at 1800 and we will race until we've had enough or we run out of daylight.

Hope to see you out there!

The 10th season of Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup activities begins this month in Deltaville. New this year, the One Design Challenge on Saturday, May 31, was created to give one design sailors an opportunity to support the overall event with their own races and fund raising. This was discussed briefly at the skippers' meeting on the first day of the One Design Spring Series. Separate daily place awards, apart from Spring Series dailies, will be given to the winning Challenge entries of each sailboat class, as a function of the number of entries as usual. Races will be run simultaneously with the FBYC Spring Series, but separate results will be recorded for entering Challenge boats.
To encourage participation and give experience to novice One Design racers, there will be a separate start for those who wish to have their first or early experiences on the starting line and around the buoys. This start will be a combined class start. Entrants to the novice race should print "Novice" in the memo line of their check. The starting signal for combined class novice race will be signal flags "L" and "S" for Leukemia Society.
Skippers are asked to register, paying a Registration Fee of only $10 per boat. In addition, skippers are asked to consider raising funds, in any amount, from their families, friends and crew to help fund research and find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Prizes consisting of a set of 4 of the new 16 oz. FBYC Tervis Tumblers will be given to the top fundraiser and a set of 4 of the 12 oz. Tumblers will be given to the runner-up ( a $60 and $48 value, respectively). Novice racers and fundraisers are eligible for these top fundraising awards.
Contributions and entry fees can be paid on site before the skippers meeting, or can be mailed to the Event Chair, Noel Clinard at 6010 York Road, Richmond, VA 23226. Checks should be made payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Contributions are Tax Deductible. More information can be obtained from Noel Clinard, nclinard@hunton.com, or 804-788-8594 (Office).

Travis Weisleder won the Melges 24 Class at Charleston Race Week in Car Loan - and Car Loan was selected as Boat of the Week!
Quoting from the Press Release --
Travis Wiesleder and his all-pro crew on Carloan.com won the coveted Charleston Race Week Cup Perpetual Trophy for winning the most competitive One-Design class – this year, an easy choice for the 27-boat Melges 24 division. Carloan.com started off this morning in a tie with Kristen Lane's Out House, from Marin, California. “We needed one good start today, and we got it,” said Carloan tactician and top OD sailor Scott Nixon. This talent-laden class is always competitive, and at a big event like Charleston, it's doubly so. Even with a crew that included Nixon, Justin Chambers, and the legendary Skip Dieball, Wiesleder was “just one piece of sea breeze away from 2nd place,” but they took that sea breeze and turned it into the top prize at the event, which included a Raymarine electronics package worth over three thousand dollars.
