SPRING SERIES
April 18 & 25, and May
1, 8 & 15, 2010
| DESCRIPTION |
This series will consist of multiple
races on five days
for PHRF SPINNAKER A, B & C, PHRF NON-SPIN sailboats holding
valid PHRF of the Chesapeake Category 4P certificates, and CRUISING
Class sailboats having a handicap rating assigned by FBYC.
Planned format will be as many as
four races on Appendix D courses each day for PHRF Spinnaker subclasses
and at least one medium distance race (Appendix D or around marks in
Appendix A) each day for PHRF NON-SPIN and CRUISING classes .
PHRF NON-SPIN will be sailed
allowing only one (1) headsail downwind.
The Race Committee may alter the
format on any race day as conditions warrant or to attempt to provide a
series of at least nine races for each PHRF SPIN subclass and five
races for PHRF NON-SPIN and CRUISING over the five days of racing in
the series.

| PROGRAM |
Awards will be presented for each day’s races and
refreshments will be provided by FBYC after each day’s races. Overall
awards for the series will be presented during the social program
following the Urbanna Race on Saturday, May 29, 2010. |
| Warning Signal |
The warning signal for the first race each day will be
at 1100 hours. |
| Subsequent races |
Multiple races are planned each day for PHRF SPIN and
may be set for PHRF NON-SPIN and CRUISING Classes. |
| STARTING AREA |
The Committee Boat could be anywhere from Piankatank R.
G “5” (FBYC “A”) and Piankatank R. Lt. R “2” Fl R 4s (FBYC “F”) or
beyond. |
| COURSES |
These course instructions apply to all races.
If conditions warrant, the Race
Committee will fly Code Flags “F” over “B” when leaving the dock and
hail on Channel 72 indicating its intention to race in Fishing Bay and
the adjacent Piankatank River.
Courses for PHRF NON-SPIN and
CRUISING classes shall, to the extent practical under the course
conditions, utilize government marks or drop marks to produce courses
which offer a variety of points of sail and are not limited to
windward/leeward courses.
The starting and finishing lines
will be between the orange or yellow flag on the Committee Boat and a
drop-mark “X” pursuant to Appendix D.

| TIME LIMITS |
The time limit for any race in the series shall be the
time necessary to complete the course (as shortened, if applicable) at
an average speed of 2 knots over the course, calculated from the actual
start time of each class or subclass starting separately. If one boat
in a class or subclass finishes within the time limit the race will be
valid for all boats in that class or subclass. |
| SCORING |
The Spring Series winner in each class or subclass will
be the boat having the lowest total point score for the series. A boat
may qualify for winning regardless of the number of races she has
started. If ten or more races are completed for any of the spinnaker
subclasses, then each boat in that subclass will be allowed to throw
out her worst score. If five or more races are completed for the PHRF
NON-SPIN or CRUISING classes, then each boat in that class will be
allowed to throw out her worst score. |
| CBYRA SANCTION |
Each day in the Series is sanctioned as a separate
event for CBYRA High Point awards. |
