Junior Sailing

The FBYC Junior Programs have evolved and become greatly respected not only on the Chesapeake Bay but across the country. There are four key ingredients that continue to drive successful Junior Sailing Programs at our Club.
  • Commitment from the Board of Trustees and Long Range Plan
  • Financial Investment in World Class Coaches
  • Dedicated parents and volunteers
  • Finally our young sailors. FYBC is being represented up and down the Bay, across the country, and around the world.

The goals of the FBYC Junior Program are to (i) provide excellent sailing instruction, with an emphasis on safety, skills, sportsmanship, camaraderie and fun, to children and teenagers; and (ii) inspire junior sailors to continue sailing throughout the summer, their junior sailing years, and their lives. The program is designed to meet the instructional needs of all junior sailors, from Opti-Kids or Beginning Optimist through competitive sailing in Optimists, 420s and Lasers at regional and national events. Although Junior Week continues to be a core event for the program early in the summer, it is the starting point of a larger program designed to get kids on sailing for the entire summer.
