Opti and Laser Race Teams

Opti and Laser Race Teams are intensive instructional racing programs requiring a significant investment of time and resources by both the participants and their families. The Opti Race Team has capacity for 10 sailors, and the Laser Race Team has capacity for 6-8 sailors.  The program consists of practice the two week ends prior to Junior Week, Junior Week, and seven weeks following Junior Week of intensive practice and racing. The teams will be coached by world-class professional coaches. Participants sail Optis, Lasers or Laser Radials.

In addition to practice at Fishing Bay, the Teams travel to regattas throughout the Chesapeake Bay and other regional events. In recent years the teams have travelled to National Championships in New England, Canada and Minnesota. Boats are transported on the club's trailers. Typically, the Teams take one day a week off; the remainder of the week is filled with practice, travel or regattas.  Junior sailors who are not registered for Opti Race Team or Laser Race Team before Junior Week may have the opportunity to join the desired team at the conclusion of Junior Week on a space available basis.
