Comments: Prior to taking an introductory sailing course while living in Atlanta, I occasionally sailed small boats like a Hobie Cat or a Sunfish when with friends, or when one was available to rent. I raced for two years on Lake Lanier near Atlanta, where I learned about the wind shadows that islands produce and what a microburst in a thunder storm can do to the jib on a J24. A few years ago, my wife and some friends chartered an Irwin 38 and sailed to the Dry Tortugas as members of a week long flotilla cruise. That experience included an overnight sail to and from our destination and small craft warnings, 4 to 6 foot seas and a headwind on our overnight return. I like to race because the competition is exciting, the camaraderie is great, and every thing you learn is transferable to cruising. When I am not sailing or spending time with my family, I manage software development projects. Please contact me for more details.

I like these boats: PHRF A or B
Experience: I have been racing at FBYC for over 30 years and am trying to get back into racing now that I have time. Frequently race on Wavelength, but they have too much. I can do just about any job except bow man. Like to trim main, jib , chute. I own a Beneteau 323 that I cruise.
Goal: sail in as many club races as possible
Availability: most of the time
Source: I have been a member for about 30 years and was treasurer for many years. I took several years off from racing and have been trying to reconnect with racing boats.
Comments: Per items above, I have been a member of FBYC since 1984 or so and was treasurer of the club for many years. I got distracted for several years from 2001 to 2009 and now have been trying to reconnect with my racing friends. I frequently sail on Wavelength, but there are so many people on the crew this year, that I do not get to sail every race. I now own my third boat, a Beneteau 323 which I cruise. I can do just about anything on a boat, except bowman. I would probably fall off the boat up there. I like to trim the main, jib, chute, can drive in a pinch, navigate, pack chute so it comes out without a twist, and I show up as promised regardless of the weather.I am happy to lend a hand in boat maintenance, delivery and whatever might be needed.

Comments: My wife and I have some powerboating experience but none so far with sailing... We would like to get out on the water and are very eager learners. We are both young professionals who relocated to Richmond from the Midwest two years ago and since then have gotten out on the water powerboats only to see the "sailors" have much more fun... We would be a great addition to any crew as long as you're willing to teach. We look forward to meeting!

I like these boats: Sailboats
Experience: ASA 101 sometime around 2003, I crewed on two boats shortly after and sailed a few Lasers. U.S. Coast Guard vet.
Goal: Refresh the limited sailing skills I have, learn, learn, learn! And have fun!
Availability: Weekends
Comments: I love being on the water and working with boats and sailors. I'm considering purchasing a sailboat, but I fear that my limited sailing abilities will prevent me from fully enjoying a boat of my own. I was in the Coast Guard for 5 years, so I know most of the rules of the road, possess excellent seamanship skills, and have great sea stories to share. Some are made up, but you won't know the difference. I'm extremely laid back and prefer a good time over going fast.

Comments: I sailed for many years (no racing) and want to get back on the water. Willingness is the key ingredient. For the math quiz I tried to answer 1 capable captain + 4 great crew, but the computer didn't like that; instead I guess a TEN is the real answer. Plan to sign up for crew training as soon as registration is open. Former member of FBYC.

Comments: I am a 39 year old sailor with a young family (children ages 4 and 7) relocating to the Richmond area at the end of June. As a child I grew up racing and sailing Lasers in Stone Harbor, New Jersey and East Orleans, MA. As a young adult I taught sailing at Cape Cod Sea Camps and continued to sail Lasers. After college I gained extensive blue water offshore and racing experience working professionally on charter yachts & maxi boats on the waters from Maine to Annapolis...and throughout the Caribbean Islands. Since coming off the yachts and beginning a career in corporate communications I've kept my feet wet by participating in local summer Wednesday night beer can races - mostly C&C's out of Sausalito, CA and most recently Westport, CT. Looking forward to meeting and sailing with any FBYC members who have need of an able hand...
