|Registration is Open - Click Here to Register for Aug Opti Week|
Due to high demand for Opti Kids and Beginning Opti during Junior Week, we will offer a second session for beginning Opti sailors only from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, August 2, 2018. Ages 6-10.
The class will be taught by our coaching staff. Students will sail double handed in Optis, and will learn capsize recovery, “tiller towards trouble,” the “no-go zone,” the basics of sail trim, how to steer with a rudderand find the wind, tacking and gybing, and more advanced concepts such as sailing alone. The class may be divided on the bases of age and prior experience so that al may learn in an appropriate and fun environment. FBYC will provide the Optis used in this class.
In addition to first-time sailors, the class is open to any junior who has completed Opti Kids and/or Beginner class during Junior Week, and who is seeking additional instruction and time on the water.
Please Note: A parent or guardian for each child must be on site during the program. This duty may be shared by parents.
Swim Test: All sailors must pass a simple two-part swim test on the first morning of camp. First, all sailors will be asked to swim the length of our pool (approximately 75') unassisted, without swim shoes and PFD. Sailors who satisfactory pass will then be asked to swim to our beach from the end of our pier in Fishing Bay, wearing swim shoes and a PFD.
Note on Safety: All participants during junior events, including juniors, adults and observers, must wear PFDs and water shoes while on or in the water (boating, swimming and wading), while on the beach, and while on the piers. No exceptions are allowed. Those who will not follow this rule will be excused from participation.
In case of inclement weather, class sessions will be held onshore.
To register, please follow the Registration Table link on the navigation bar. Parents should carefully provide each sailor's experience in the comment section during registration, as classes may be sub-divided based on age, size, and relative sailing experience. Payments are non-refundable after registration is closed.
Daily Schedule: More detail will be provided in the enrollment letter sent to registrants, but note that sessions are from 9:00 AM to Noon, and from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Parents or guardians are responsible for lunch and must provide supervision during the lunch hour, and immediately before and after class.
