First Trip to Laser Masters Week

There aren’t many things to look forward to in getting old – but Laser Masters sailing is definitely one of them.  This was my first time sailing Florida Laser Masters week having just qualified a few months ago.  The week consists of 3 events – Florida Masters in West Palm, Masters Midweek Madness in Sarasota and Masters Midwinters in Tampa.  For over a decade now I’ve been running the Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Regatta at Fishing Bay Yacht Club and so I was familiar with masters sailing in general.  I’ve also traveled to numerous ILCA-NA events from ACC to Nationals to North Americans and was eager to try out Masters week.  Unfortunately, my schedule would …

20150331-002FBYC is again offering their popular Crew Training Program with classes starting in March.  This program was started over 25 years ago and has been introducing sailors to the sport and to FBYC ever since.  For anyone looking to learn the basics of sailing, or get into racing, or improve their skills - this is the class.  The class consists of 3 evening classes in Richmond and 2 optional on the water practice days at FBYC.

Classroom instruction is provided by FBYC racing skippers and crew with experience in local, national and international racing and participants are given written materials to compliment the classroom sessions.

Jackson creek dredging is complete & the markers have been placed! Here are the final soundings:

 

 

Around the Club, the East slip bulkhead has been backfilled and work as begun on the floors in Fannie’s House.  Please avoid going inside until February 25.

Piling replacement on our Middle Dock and the bulkhead wailer repairs are complete!  An inspection of the crane has also been completed.  Backfilling the bulkhead is the list.  Here is the crew replacing the pilings:

 

Dredging of the Jackson Creek channel is also underway!  Here is a crew working on the infamous “dog leg” of the channel:

We are excited about the 2017 Junior sailing season at Fishing Bay Yacht Club, and looking forward to another great year of FUN! No matter your sailor's age, experience, or sailing goals, we have a sailing activity to excite them and get them out on the water with their friends.
