Our pilot schooner Virginia won the 23rd Annual Gloucester [Massachusetts] Schooner Race on Sunday.  Cap'n Bill Johnson, a retired Virginia Pilot,  was invited to "guest crew" for the race.  Nicholas Alley and Hank Moseley  were at the helm. Bill said that Virginia has been down east all summer, giving sail training lessons to teenagers.  She is moving homeward now, bringing with her a piece of  down east silverware, having also given "racing lessons" to the Gloucester, MA, competition.

What is with these guys?  "If  Ernesto Bertarelli and Brad Butterworth had much concern with public perception, it was not apparent at the Rolex Farr 40 Worlds. After coming in second overall, the team leaders no-showed at the awards presentation." From Scuttlebutt issue 2424.    There must be no limit to their expanding hat sizes.

There were 174 entries at CBYRA-Annapolis Race Week.  Southern Bay racing official John McCarthy served as a Judge on the 6 person Jury  headed by Pat Healy.  Pat is well known in the southern Bay, especially for his North U. course on weather.

Ex-patriate southern Bay racer, now sailing out of Annapolis YC, Sanford Richardson, sailed Kahuna to 2nd place in the PHRF A0 Fleet at CBYRA-Annapolis Race Week.  Kahuna was the itch boat in her fleet with a rating of 27. At the NYCC Dink Vail and Labor Day Regatta, a possible crisis of great magnitude was smoothly averted by the host club staff.  At the 11th hour, the number of attendees at the post-race awards dinner doubled from 50 to 100.   Everyone got "fed and watered' in fine fashion and most were unaware of the excellent crisis management behind the scenes.

MURPHY'S LAW:  Lots of multiple day events this past weekend - all requiring racing the morning after a night or two of party-ing.  First thing in the morning, a lot of racers were in search of "hair of the dog".  Made Yrs Truly,  the Racing Beagle,  a little nervous - could have been plucked absolutely bald.    /S/  Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
