PHRF OF THE CHESAPEAKE annual Board of Delegates Meeting, Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Annapolis Yacht Club.  If you have questions, Executive Secretary Stewart Buckler asks that you contact him at (410) 414-3270.  Delegate check-in begins at 0900 and meeting at 1000.  If you have specific concerns, you should let your club's delegate to PHRF or the Region 4 VP (Mike Dale) know immediately.  You can check out the meeting agenda at www.phrfchesbay.com   Remember, this is where PHRF class policies and procedures (equipment requirements, fleet splits, etc.) are determined; it is not the place for individual boat handicap issues - the PHRF Handicappers resolve those.

Fishing Bay Yacht Club Frost Bite Regatta was yesterday.  Brad Miller in Schiehallion won the BC Fleet (3 boats), and  Mike Dale, Juggernaut, took first in the Non-Spin (3 boats) fleet.  Brad Davis, Blade Runner , was the sole PHRF A boat on the course.  PRO  - Sharon Bauer.
On the Rappahannock  River:   Ron Mihills reports that " Rappahannock River Yacht Club successfully defended the Rappahannock Cup against Yankee Point Yacht Club on  Oct. 18 & 19.  Winds blew a good solid 20K+ with gusts on Saturday and 20K-25K on Sunday with gusts to 30K+, white caps everywhere, and very lumpy seas.  The conditions were so strong on Sunday that only AERWANA from YPYC and Jerry Latell’s BOOMERANG raced one spinnaker race.  Neither boat flew a spinnaker.  Jerry did not have reef points in his mainsail, so raced with only a jib upwind and two headsails downwind.    Now, that's some serious non-spinnaker racing!        Mike McCartney aboard MARIJO won the Rappahannock River Yacht Racing Fleet – Spinnaker High Point trophy and Pete Knight on SALUTE won the RRYRF – Non-Spinnaker High Point.

Last ReminderCCV Annual Party and Awards Presentation is this Friday, November 7, at the Hampton Crowne Plaza Hotel (previously known as the Hampton Marina Hotel, which was previously known as the Radisson) on the waterfront in downtown Hampton.  Heavy hors d'oeuvres and free wine and beer (as long as the supply last).  Food, drink, and awards begin at 7:00pm.  Dancing to the music of  THE PHUN DOCTORS goes from 9:15 to 1:00 AM.  $35 per person if received before Friday, $40 at the door.  For info and ressies contact Karl or Senta Petersen at (757) 271-2869.

PTEROBYTE, Jim Baldwin's Evelyn 32, is in Hampton Roads for the FROSTBITE SERIES.  She homeports at Fishing Bay Yacht Club, rates 96, and is sailing in the  PHRF A  fleet.  Pterobyte finished 6th in the A Division of the Lightning (racing) Fleet in the recent  Turkey Shoot Hospice Regatta.

Enter yourself in the Volvo Ocean Race Game at http://www.volvooceanracegame.org/play .  One southern Bay racer who is playing says you "...can decorate your own boat, set the sails and then adjust your course as well as look up and track your friends."  Word is there are more than 30,000 people playing.  WOW! That's some starting line!  Leg 2 starts on November 15th.

Lightnings, 420/FJs and the 5o5 Region II Championship this coming weekend (November 8-9)...and the post-race Oyster Roast on Saturday!   All set for the annual Hampton Yacht Club  Fall Fling - OPEN TO ALL.   You cannot beat late Fall one-design racing in Hampton Roads, so hitch up that trailer and get the boat,  the crew, and all your friends and family over to Hampton for the weekend.  This is a great opportunity  for seasoned as well as collegiate and high school racers.  For general info (housing, etc.) and special 5o5 issues, contact Henry Amthor at  (757) 722-8377  and to register contact  Malcolm or Kathy Brady at (757) 723-3244.  Lightning Fleet contact person is Joe Buczkowski at (757) 416-9807.

Hot Butter Rum Race, Willoughby Racers (BBSA) season-ender, brought 19 boats out to race single headsail only in Willoughby Bay (aka Little Bay)  on Saturday, and awarded trophies in the appropriately named "Gold Label" fleet and the "Silver Label" fleet.  Fine  took first among the 12 Gold boats and Tanqueray was first ( and only one to finish) among the 7 Silver boats.  Needless to say, Saturday was a light air day, and finishing a difficult task, even with a very short course.  No matter - in this event, it's the post-race grog that matters most - Arrrgh!

Speaking of the  37,000 mile Volvo Ocean Race - the trans-Atlantic leg ends  with a stopover in Galway, Ireland,  May 23 - June 6.  SpinSheet Magazine is putting together a group package for those interested in being there for the festivities.  Point-of-Contact is Mary Ewenson at (410) 216-9309.   Watch for more details on logistics, cost, etc. in  future issues of SBRNYCU!

The Naro Theatre in Norfolk, VA (Colley Avenue) will be showing  MORNING LIGHT,  the  movie, on Nov 15th and 16th at 12:30pm.  Ticket prices are between $6 and $8.  There will be the one special showing each day.  If you have a fiber of racing in you, you are going to want to see this for sure. Naro Cinema - (757) 625-6276 .  Remember, one of "our own", JD Scott, who sails on Harry Tenney's  Margarita, was an important crew member on the boat that carried the film crew  that made this Disney movie.
