ONE-DESIGN (small boats) SCHEDULE for CBYRA:  The "Honcho" of the One-Design Schedule for the small boats for the entire Bay is our very own Tom Roberts at tjroberts2@cox.net .  Club and One-Design Class reps should be sending their one-design events schedule directly to Tom along with points of contact, etc.  He is already putting together the spreadsheet for the entire Bay right now, so you really need to get on this, if you are not already.

Meanwhile, the 2009 CBYRA Region 4 Schedule for "Big Boats" is complete and ready for publication.  You may contact your club's and/ or sailing association's racing dude, these are the folks who put in all the time coordinating your club's events with the rest of the Region, or you can simply hit your reply button to this  issue of Southern Bay Racing News You Can Use,  and on the SUBJ: line put "I gotta have my schedule now!", or words to that effect.  The schedule will come to you via email pretty darn quick!  Get ready - 2009 has shaped up as a great season!

WAIRERE,  Pete Hunter's Thompson 30, is headed for Acura Key West Race Week (January  19 -23, 2009).  Wairere, sailing out of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, is a regular  and past overall winner at Southern Bay Race Week.  At this point,  Wairere is the only entry from the "southern Bay and beyond" in the Key West  showcase event.

ANNA IS US SAILING’s 2008 SportsWoman of the Year!   Below is quoted directly from an official US SAILING public relations release:
Anna Tunnicliffe won a coveted gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Qingdao, China, entering the history books as the first American female sailor in 20 years to win gold at the Olympic Games. ... US Sailing Team Coach Luther Carpenter (La Porte, Texas), said, “Anna is your dream athlete. She’s a hard worker, in amazing shape, very open to coaching, completely driven and she sees a path clearly to winning.”

In case you missed this in the holiday crush - Junior Sailing Programs:  Word is that ACL barge lines in Louisville has a number of 13.5' Zodiacs in their warehouse that have never been used.  The company paid $15,500 each, and they'll sell them for $10,000 each.  They have center consoles, and 30-hp Mercury fuel injected, four cycle engines.  Very stable; would be great for Junior Sail training, etc.  Anyone interested should contact Christian Primm directly at cdprimm@aclines.com.

HARBORFEST - JULY 3rd to JULY 5th - is a long, long way off, but  the folks at Norfolk's FestEvents want everyone to know that Harborfest boat slip reservations are available now.  The plan is to commemorate the Grand Opening of the revitalized Town Point Park, celebrate the 33rd Harborfest, and party in honor of our Nation's independence all in one great weekend on Norfolk's downtown waterfront.   For info, please contact James Scruggs at  scruggsj@festevents.org  or  phone him at (757) 441-2345, x-3019.  Now's the time to think ressies, if you want to be at the center of the action!
