MIHILLS win TYPHOON NATIONALS.   Ron Mihills (Irvington, VA) and his sons, Rick Mihills (Annapolis, MD) and Brent Mihills (Morattico, VA) won the last three races of the two-day, 5-race regatta held at Rappahannock River Yacht Club Saturday and Sunday.  With Brent at the helm and Rick calling tactics, the Mihills men put together a string of 3-3-1-1-1 and won the 19 boat Championship fleet convincingly.  Dad Ron and son Rick sailed together last year to win the 2011 class national title, but this weekend was the first time in over 20 years the three had raced together.  Including the 13 boat Corinthian fleet, 32 boats sailed in the regatta.  RESULTS:  Championship fleet (19 boats):1.Brent Mihills with Rick Mihills and Ron Mihills (3-3-1-1-1); 2.Doug Dorsey with Lud Kimbrough (2-2-5-4-3); 3.Chuck Carmichael with Bob Fleck (1-7-2-8-2).  Corinthian fleet (13 boats):1.Jack McKim with Alison Gay (3-3-2-3-1);  2.Graham Shivers with Gregg Shivers (5-2-4-5-2);  3.Harry Wells with Jane Wells (4-8-1-6-5).  Complete results are available at www.rryc.org   Event Chairman:- Ron Mihills;  Principal Race Officer-John McCarthy

FEATHER wins 2012 HANBURY CUP. Thirteen (13) racers contested the 2012 Hanbury Cup Saturday afternoon, racing to Middle Ground Light and back to harbor mark “A”.  The event benefits the Christopher Newport University Sailing Team.  It was a nice afternoon's sailing followed by a cookout  hosted at Hampton Yacht Club. Several members of the CNU team served as ambassadors, crewing for some of the racers. The fleet was split into two groups: RESULTS  A (6 boats): 1. Phil Briggs, Feather; 2. Ben Weeks, Rumble; 3. Christian Schaumloffel, Mirage.   B (7 boats): 1. Neil Ford, Rocket J; 2. Max Plarr, Boomerang; 3. Graham Field, Independence. CCV MOONLIGHT TRIANGLE, Saturday, June 30.  CCV racing for the season-long CCV High Point  resumes this coming weekend with the annual Moonlight Triangle Race.  The race starts off the Buckroe Beach area (Hampton) in the vicinity of CCV Bay Mark “Y”.  Warning for the first fleet is 1700 (5pm).  Possible courses are published in the 2012 CCV Racing Guide, pages 80-81. Possible courses distances range from 30.1 nm to 15.6 nm.  Racers who hold a CCV Racing membership are automatically entered; all others must enter by Friday, June 29^th.       This race is also scored for the Broad Bay Sailing Association 2012 Southern Bay Distance Racing Series.  For information, please contact Principal Race Officer, Richard Payne at (757) 928-0067.

FBYC MOONLIGHT REGATTA, Saturday 30.  This is the second of the Fishing Bay YC Long Distance Series races.  For info and entry, please see www.fbyc.net

The Corsair US Nationals will be part of SCREWPILE 2012.   First, all racers should know that PHRF and  one-design (monohull) boats will not race on the same courses as the Corsair multi-hull design boats. Early  in discussions regarding hosting the Corsair Nationals, it was decided the first order of business was to separate the monohull boats and the multi-hulls.  Second, muti-hulls (and only multi-hulls) will run on the South Course where there is plenty of room and there will be no overlapping the West and North courses. With all the loyal Screwpilers and the new folks from all over the US and Canada this should be one of the best Screwpiles ever. Enter by this coming Saturday (June 30^th) and save the additional $75 fee that kicks in after the June 30^th deadline.  Go to www.splc.us  for info and entry forms.

MURPHY'S LAW:  As everyone knows, Yrs Truly, the Racing Beagle,  has an extended family that is scattered world-wide. This weekend my Irish Terrier cousin, Rapp River Murphy, was in attendance at the Typhoon Nationals.  He’s got a pretty good thing going, does me cousin.  He keeps a bottle opener on his collar that he freely shares with everyone and anyone at anytime, thus gathering plenty of “thank you” pats along with drips and drops of freshly opened frosty brew.  What a gig!  [NOTE: Rapp River Murphy travels with Jim and Kathy Bearden].    /S/ Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
