Cruising News - August 2010

The cruising regatta attracted 10 boats which turned into a drifting match but Chilcoot prevailed to finish first. The race committee of Ric and Sharon Bauer did a stellar job of running the race and attempting to fairly rate the boats. I think we learned a few things about handicapping this year which we can carry over to next year. After the race we had dinner with 42 people attending. A good time was had by all.

On July 28 the progressive dinner was held with 28 people attending. Cocktails were had at Sarah Carneal's home with dinner up river at Andy and Ellen Soyars home. It was a hot evening as it was 98 that day but fans keep us cool for a pleasant evening. The cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were outstanding followed by a delicious meal. If you were not there you missed an excellent affair. On Sunday morning, breakfast was served at the home of Don and Ann Wickwire-again an excellent meal. We have some cruisers who can cook.

The next event will be the pirates cruise to Gwynn's Island. Jim Morrison-cruise director has made every possible effort to accommodate different schedules and club activities to make this a really fun affair. So pack up the kids and put on pirate duds and head over to the beach behind Gwynn's on Saturday.

The Captain's choice Cruise on Aug 28 will be preceded by dinner on Friday night at the clubhouse. Stella and Charlie Jones will be bringing barbecue from NC for the dinner and then Saturday we will head for where ever the wind will take us. So sign up online ASAP so the Jones can get an idea of how many to plan on for dinner on Friday.

A lot of activity, so come out and enjoy these activities with your fellow sailors.
