Geezer Regatta Updates

Eight updates for the Geezer Regatta on August 27:

1) The event is planned for Flying Scots and all other One-Design fleets that can muster three or more boats. If you can't get on a Scot, consider Lasers, Mobjacks, 420s, and even Optis for grins. (Optis will have a separate, shorter, and more docile course.) If you can't bring your own vessel there is no excuse: the Club has four to five Lasers, seven 420s, and 16 Optis available for use. Alain Vincey is trying to encourage the Lasers,  Perry Guy the 420s, Gordon Cutler the Optis, and Case Whittemore the Mobjacks.

2) If a sufficient number of Flying Scots register, the Committee will consider breaking this fleet up into two divisions: a Red division for pros and a White division for amateurs or less experienced. (Red & White  correspond to the colors on our burgee.)

3) There will be a modest fee of $20/person for those wishing to celebrate at cocktails and dinner when trophies will be awarded on Saturday night. Money will be collected at registration on Saturday morning rather than online.

4) Committee Member Gil Miles is burning CDs made up of 60's beach, Motown, rock/roll and will offer beer/wine and set-ups pre/post dinner inclusive in the fee. For those preferring stronger spirits, the event is BYOB.

5) Dinner will be presented by Committee Member Judy Buis and will be a throwback to the famous "Ralph & Marie Lynn Spaghetti Dinners" that were memorable dining experiences at FBYC during the 1950s and 60s.

6) If anyone wants to play dress up (a la the Preppy Handbook) to lend a touch of class to this retro affair, please feel free to do so. However, no official dress code will be observed.

7) We will use the same protest system employed in the 1952 Penguin Caucus  Regatta: "All protests must be filed fifteen (15) minutes before the start of each race. Only a protest of a completely disabled boat will be  recognized. There will be a meeting of the protest committee immediately following the awarding of trophies. All skippers interested are requested to  attend."

8) And finally, some Committee Members have felt that the label, Geezer Regatta, might be too disrespectful to the ancient skippers among us. (Our motto: "We have forgotten more about sailing than the young whippersnappers will ever know.") Earlier this year, we solicited submissions for renaming the Geezer Regatta, and, after much deliberation, selected the following: (Cue trumpet fanfare...ta..daaaaaaaaa....)

The RumLine Regatta: Only Skippers Over Sixty

Also, please remember that anyone under sixty is able and encouraged to participate as crew, race committee, or as a valuable member of the shore support team.

The Committee Members: Perry Guy, Jere Dennison, Gil Miles, Judy Buis, Julia Lee Race Committee: Matt Braun Committee Boat: Paul Howle is providing his deadrise, Julia Ann, which he promises to have well-stocked with liquid refreshments of every variety available for racing participants.
