Leukemia Cup Regatta Raises over $200,000

The 7th annual Leukemia Cup Regatta raised over $200,000, far surpasing the amt. we raised last year. It was a unbelievable Regatta series starting with a visit from Gary Jobson in March, followed by the JR. Challenge, the Kayak tour, Arts at FBYC and the Sail-a-thon, ending in a weekend, with FBYC hosting three major events at the same time. The J.O.'s, the Regatta and a visit from the Schooner Virginia one of her earliest.

Friday night's auction was so well attended that we will have to look at how to expand the Firehouse. We sold 300 crab cakes thanks to the efforts of York River Yacht Club.

Saturdays racing was a typical Sat. in July, HOT with little wind, we did get in two races. Many thanks to John Beeery, Lud Kimbrough and David Lee for doing a excerllent job on race committee for the PHRF course, and to York River Yacht Club for race committee on the Leukemia Course. After hearing from alot of sailors, we will be looking into having races on both Sat. and Sunday next year, with possibly a feeder race from the Lower Bay on Friday. LOOK FOR MORE DETAILS IN THE FUTURE

The boat that took the prize was the Schooner Virginia, she was a towering beauty donating her time for the benifit of the LLS. Many thanks to those who made it happen and to Lud Kimbrough and Kelly O'Toole who worked on the logistics and details.

Many thanks to Noel Clinard, he not only coordinated a successful J.O. but was generous in his efforts to have the J.O.'s give a substantial doantion to the LLS.

This event could not have happened without the relentless untiring work from the regatta committee, over the past year, they have put in endless hours to ensure this event would be successful.

You, the members of FBYC, the flag officers again have out done yourselves. What you have given back to the LLS cannot be put into a simple thank you.

We all support and work hard each year on this event for one main reason, to help the LLS with its relentless mission to find a cure for all blood related cancers. The survivior that spoke at the Gala Sat. night. said it all, "Your fundraising efforts gave me a chance to live, and have given me a opportunity to stand before you to thank you."
