Northern Bay Cruise

Fellow Cruisers, our trip to the upper Chesapeake Bay is now just 2 weeks away. I want to share with you our updated itinerary and give you some information you will need to make arrangements for slips at several locations, should you choose to use them. In addition, I would like to begin getting feedback from each of you on your plans, how many people you will have on your boats, and what activities you plan to participate in. This will help us to plan group activities, dinners, cocktail parties etc.My “Co-Captain” Nancy has asked that each boat try to have a total of 3 hors d’ouvres during the course of the cruise so that she can call on you to support our various cocktail party gatherings. Also, for first evening, we will have a raft-up potluck dinner in Mill Creek. Please bring a dish to share. We will also grill hamburgers and hot dogs Wednesday night in Rock Hall, so plan to bring a side dish to share with the group.

Our itinerary includes stops at Solomon’s Island, Galesville, Rock Hall, Gibson Island, Annapolis, St. Michaels, Cambridge, Pt. Lookout, and Reedville. There are marinas or moorings available at each of these locations. With the exception of The Sailing Emporium at Rock Hall, you must each make your own reservations for slips or moorings at these locations if you choose to use them. I have spoken with each of them and they are expecting our group so please identify yourself as part of the Fishing Bay cruise group. Contact information is included on the attached spreadsheet. I am also going to send to each of you a letter from Zahnisers at Solomons. It is very important that you make your reservations with Terry no later than September 7th due to heavy demand associated with Trawler Fest which begins in Solomons on Thursday, 9/25.

While we are in Rock Hall, we will have the Trolley available to take our group to historic Chestertown for site-seeing, lunch, and possibly some shopping. The charge for the Trolley is $10 per person, roundtrip. It is also a very nice bike ride of about 13 miles each way if you are so inclined. We are very fortunate to have Ross and Jeanne Hamilton host us for a dinner picnic at their home on the beautiful Wye River, just north of St. Michaels. In St. Michaels, I have provided information on two marinas that accommodate transients. While we are in Annapolis, Navy will host Rutgers with a 3:30 PM kickoff on Saturday afternoon. PLEASE LET ME KNOW, ASAP, IF YOU WOULD LIKE FOR ME TO TRY TO GET YOU TICKETS. THEY ARE $35 EACH AND IT WILL BE A SELLOUT SO DON’T DELAY. That Saturday night there is a large street festival scheduled in Eastport that should be a lot of fun.

I want to stress that it is not necessary for everyone to follow our itinerary precisely or to participate in all of our scheduled activities. Please feel free to come and go from the group, eat dinner onboard your boat, anchor out, or take your own sidetrip. I would just ask that you let me know so that we can adjust any plans we have for the group. In particular, we are planning group dinners at Pirates’ Cove in Galesville, The Waterman’s Inn in Rock Hall, Rock Hall cook-out, the Gibson Island Yacht Squadron, the Crab Claw in St. Michael’s, the Hamilton’s, the Cambridge Yacht Club, and Spinnaker’s at Pt. Lookout Marina.

The Crab Feast in Reedville on Saturday, September 27th is a separate event that will likely draw some other Fishing Bay folks up from Deltaville. Please contact Vic Denunzio at (804) 512-0110 to sign up for this event.
