NYCC Junior Regatta - A Great Day

We had a great day today. Catherine Clinard sailed well in green fleet and came home with a fourth place trophy, which she was so proud of she cradled it in her hands the entire drive home!  Unfortunately she will need to have some fiberglass work done on the boat bow - she was on starboard tack and the little kid who hit her who was on port tack & did not respond to her yelling "starboard" at him.

Quentin Jenkins got a third place trophy in blue fleet. Eliza Strickland and Miles Kimbrough sailed an FJ belonging to NYCC because there weren't any other Bytes - they sailed without the plugs, which provided the coach boat an opportunity to help "save" a sinking vessel.  They got a second place in their fleet. The coach boat was busy running from fleet to fleet, ferrying balers, rescuing "sinking" vessels, providing moral support and high fives, and of course also coaching.

Coach Blake was pressed into RC duty for the red-white-blue Opti fleet. Coach Eric let me ride with him in the (very wet) red boat.

The Opti sailors returned to Fishing Bay at 4:30, and the coaches and teenagers elected to dine together and arrive a bit later.

I didn't realize it was as hot as the blazes until I got home and saw the thermometer - 95 degrees at 6:00 PM.

I am looking forward to more regattas this summer. Ruthanna
