Welcome to the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship

Jon Deutsch on Wednesday September 3, 2008 04:51PM

On behalf of Fishing Bay Yacht Club I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the sailors planning on attending the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship this weekend. We will be watching Tropical Storm Hanna very closely over the coming hours. The current forecast has the center of the storm going east of us and it appears to be clear enough for at least one full day of sailing on Sunday. With that in mind we are going to be optimistic that the weather will change for the better and give an even bigger window to sail in.Since this is a bit of a tough situation, we have set up an email distribution list for facilitating announcements and information regarding the event this weekend. This will enable those of us at the club early Friday to send notices via email from our mobile devices to others who have not yet started their journey. We will post all official notices to the front page of www.fbyc.net in addition to sending them via the email list. To sign up for this email distribution list, please visit the link below. We will not continue to email any other list to spare those of you on multiple email lists or those not attending.

DIRECTIONS
Directions to FBYC can be found at: http://www.fbyc.net/Club/Directions

Please note the tide schedule may affect your ability to drive to the club at certain times on Friday and Saturday morning. If the storm brings with it a surge of more than 2 feet, the road leading to the club may be flooded at high tide. Please do not drive through the water if it is more than a few inches deep. It gets deeper the further you drive down the road, so please don't risk swamping your vehicle. High tide is at 3:11pm on Friday and is the most likely time the road may not be navigable.
Here is the tide schedule: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/tide.cgi?tide=1404

Two years ago we had a storm blow through the first day of the 2006 District 11 Championship and a similar high water situation occurred. You can see pictures of this at: http://www.jdeutsch.com/photography/2006LaserDistrictChampionship/

REGISTRATION
Registration will be open from 8am to 10am Saturday morning. If you have pre-registered, please come by to check in and pick up your t-shirt and dinner ticket. Anyone not registered, can do so at this time. In the event that we do not race on Saturday, we will open registration on Sunday from 7:30 to 8:30 with a 8:45am skipper's meeting.

BREAKFAST
We will have breakfast available both Saturday and Sunday morning at the club starting around 8am. It will consist of muffins, bagels, coffee and juice.

DINNER
We will have dinner Saturday night rain or shine. If we do not sail Saturday, then dinner will start between 6:30 and 7. If we do sail, then dinner time will be announced following everyone's arrival back on shore.

LUNCHES AND SNACKS
We will have water, Gatorade, power bars, and fruit available on the water both days. They will be available from the Sea Craft. This is the boat without the roof that will be stationed near the start-finish line between races.
