Tartan Ten Chesapeake Bay Fleet Championship

Over the weekend of July 15 - 17 the Tartan Ten Class fleet 10 Chesapeake conducted its 2016 fleet championship in conjunction with the Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge Regatta sailed on the Bay at the mouth of Maryland's Patuxent River.

The majority of teams participtaing in the event were from FBYC. The overall winner and 2016 Champion was FBYC's Austin Powers sailing Blue By You with 3 firsts. Second place went to Aaron Ressler sailing Parrott Head out of Severn Sailing Association with a 2,3,2 score. Third place went to Frank  Murphy of FBYC sailing Shenanigan with 4,2,3 finishes.

FBYC's Laser Masters sailor, Charlie Brewer shines at the Atlantic Coast Championships hosted by the Sayville Yacht Club on Long island Sound held on 16 and 17 July.  Thirty-seven competitors race for the championship with adjustments made to their scores based upon age.  Charlie easily won his age group and was third overall.  The legendary Peter Seidenberg, winner of numerous World,  North American, European and National championships, as well as the father of the much loved Seitech Dolly was first overall.

FBYC continues to enjoy an outstanding reputation throughout the country not only for its strong junior sailing program but also for its ability to ably conduct major regattas.  The annual Chesapeake Bay Laser Masters Championship routinely attracts skippers …

August Captain's Choice Cruise

Docks Meeting Reminder: Sunday, July 31st at 10 am.

At the June Board Meeting the Docks Planning Committee presented their assessment of the Jackson Creek docks.  This was a two-phase process that took many volunteers 18 months to complete.  To learn more about the Docks Committee findings and recommendations, please attend one of several upcoming presentations.  The first meeting is scheduled for this Sunday, July 31st, at 10 am upstairs in the main club house.  A second one will be held at the club on Monday, September 5th (Labor Day) at 10 am.  Additional meetings will likely be held in Richmond this Fall.

77th Annual One Design Regatta

AOD_logoFishing Bay Yacht Club's 77th Annual One Design Regatta is just around the corner and we wanted to let you know about a couple great ways to spend the weekend at the club.

RACE

We'll have two courses of racing with starts for Optis, Lasers, Radials, Front Runners, Flying Scots, a Portsmouth fleet and any other classes with 7 or more boats.  The regatta features 2 days of racing on the Piankatank River with Saturday dinner and drinks included in registration.  Online Registration before 8/8 requested.  (Notice Of Race)

Deltaville Water System Update: Progress Toward Deployment Trickles Along

In a recent Press Release, the Middlesex Water Authority reported on their vote to continue negotiations with contractor Sydnor Hyrdo for deployment of a water system in Deltaville.  According to Carlton Revere, Chairman of the Middlesex Water Authority, "a suitable and sustainable water system should be achievable."  The public-private partnership was unsuccessful recently in achieving its goal of 190 additional subscribers.  Only 42 new subscriptions were added during the last incentivized connection period which ended June 3rd.  

However, perhaps more importantly the Water Authority has been offered an initial funding package from the Virginia Department of Health's Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund consisting of a low interest loan in the amount of $10.2 million …
