How are the southern Bay young'uns doing?  Preliminary CBYRA High Point Standings for Juniors are posted at www.cbyra.org   Among those listed at the top of their fleets are homies Brett Baker and Michael Brown (HYC) - 2nd in 420s;  Taylor Gray (HYC) - 8th in 420s;  Alex O'Toole (FBYC) - 11th in 420s;  Drew Johnson (NYCC) - 1st in Lasers;  and, in the top 20 of the Opti Fleet are  5th Sam Stokes (NYCC); 10th Gordon Wolcott (NYCC); 15th Chris Klevan.  Kudos to all who qualified for CBYRA High Point competition and to all who raced this summer.

Last year we had excellent participation and with some new blood this year we should do better.  As many of you know this is a great venue and with the new facilities nearing completion I am sure this could be one of the best events yet. DIYC in Tampa, Florida, advises that they  will be hosting the annual Fireball event, I would like to find out from the Frontrunner Fleet how many will be interested in attending March 4,5, & 6, 2005. As of now there are several that have voiced interest. It is time to get a better idea of who is going so that I can inform Davis Island Yacht Club of our intentions.

IMPORTANT SCHEDULING MEETING FOR 2005 RACES:  CBYRA Region 4 (south of Potomac River) yacht clubs and sailing organizations who plan to hold events for handicap fleets (PHRF/MORC, etc.) should have a representative at the Scheduling Meeting set for DECEMBER 15, 2004, 7:00 pm at Hampton Yacht Club, 4707 Victoria Blvd, Hampton, VA.

Leukemia Cup Regatta wins National Award

Leukemia Cup
For the second year in a row, at the Leukemia and Lymphoma's National Leadership conference in Denver, Colorado, the Southern Bay Leukemia Cup Regatta, was named as one of the top six regattas in the country.

I was fortunate enough to be attending this conference and accept this award. There are 47 Regattas around the country. The Regattas are put in six regions, and the best Regatta in each region gets the award. We were competing with some very LARGE Yacht clubs!!!

Our regatta grossed $188,000 last year. An amazing amount for a small town and yacht club on the Chesapeake Bay!!!

Proposed CHANGES TO PHRF FLEET SPLITS FOR THE SOUTHERN BAY for 2005 SEASON:  Current PHRF Southern Bay Region Vice-President Randy Pugh has announced that at last week's meeting of PHRF skippers, the following PHRF Fleet Split CHANGES were approved:  A Fleet:  Up to 116;  B Fleet:  117 to 166;   C Fleet:  167 and up.  He said the changes will be carried forward as proposals to the Annual PHRF (Bay-wide) Meeting to be held Saturday, November 13, at Annapolis Yacht Club.    For information contact Randy  at (757) 301-2859.
