VELUX 5 OCEANS Update:  The second finisher on the second leg of this around the world solo event is due to arrive in Norfolk Wednesday, March 14.   Kojiro Shiraishi, Sprit of Yukoh,  should cross the finish line, at Cape Henry, and proceed to a welcome ceremony at Waterside, downtown Norfolk, on Wednesday, IF nothing untoward occurs.  But, this is a sailboat race with very fast boats and a lot of ocean.  For up-to-date arrival time information, you can visit http://www.velux5oceans.com    From there, click on  "Norfolk Stopover" for local updates as they become available.   Join in the fun and be part of the greeting party at Waterside!
Hampton University sailing coach, Carolyn Grant, reports that the HU Team qualified for the America Trophy competition by virtue of their finish in the ODU Open South #1 regatta weekend before this past..  HU finished 5th overall, but 3rd among those seeking "qualification" at the regatta.
 
CCV-HYC RACE MANAGEMENT CLINIC - Saturday, March 17, 2007, 0900 - 1200.  Hosted by HYC at 4407 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, VA.  There is no admission charge and the clinic is open to all.  John McCarthy, US Sailing Advanced race Officer, will give you "The Big Ten".  These are the ten things the race committee must do AFTER the start to ensure fair and fun racing for all. Check-in, coffee, and pastries, compliments of CCV and HYC, begin at 0830.  ALSO, bring your Rule Book  (a limited number of copies will be available for purchase ($15) at the clinic).  For directions/info call (757) 850-4225.
