Southern Bay Race Week  EARLY BIRD ENTRY  deadline is only 11 days away, April 17, 2009.   All Early Bird skippers will receive 6 free regatta beverage tickets in their welcome bag and each will have a chance in the drawing for the set (8) of embroidered SBRW polo shirts.  Only Early Bird skippers will be entered in the drawing.   Now is the time to enter - you will absolutely have a great time.  SBRW = 3 days of racing and 4 nights of parties!   For entry information and/or forms, please contact Lin McCarthy (757) 850-4225 or check the website, www.blacksealcup.com
CCV TUNE-UP RACES, Saturday, April 11, Hampton Roads harbor, first warning at 1100.  Two short races, weather permitting.  Courses will be around government marks, so bring your CCV mark list (page 39 in the 2009 CCV Racing Guide)  OPEN TO ALL and FREE, but you must submit  an ENTRY FORM.  Order of starts: PHRF non-Spin, and then PHRF Spinnaker (A,B,and C combined).  Shake off the rust, try out those new sails, get the crew ready.  For info contact John McCarthy at (757) 850-4225 or mcbear@earthlink.net
 
Already the Hampton Yacht Club Wednesday Night racing is underway and so is the Old Point Comfort Saturday Morning series.  BBSA Little Creek Wednesdays and Willoughby Racers Thursday nights open this week.
 
The racing schedule begins in earnest on April 18-19.  CCV SPRING SERIES opens on Sunday, April 19, with Races #1 & #2.  Up the Bay on the Rappahannock, Fishing Bay Yacht Club will have their Opening Day and begin Spring Series, April 18-19.  These are all sanctioned races and require a 2009 valid rating from PHRF of the Chesapeake, if racing in a PHRF fleet.
 
Racers already registered in the hunt for the 2009 CCV HIGH POINT reflect a healthy fleet.  To date, PHRF A  shows 13 entered, including Mike Nestor in Tell Tales, a Tayana 55.  PHRF B has 13 listed including newcomer Jack Hall and his J/30, Blew J.    Daystar,  Paul Young's  San Juan 24, ups the PHRF C fleet numbers to 12.  And, PHRF Non-Spin has 5 already entered for the season.   The time has come... finally!  For information contact John McCarthy at (757) 850-4225.
 
Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge  (July 19,20, and 21) is well into organizing for 2009.  From event officials comes word that 275 rooms at the headquarters hotel, Holiday Inn Select, Solomons, have been blocked for Screwpile;  to receive the special Screwpile discount when you make your ressies, be sure to use Code SC9.  For entry info and details, go to the event websites at www.screwpile.net or  www.splc.us
