Winter sports

For those who ski in the winter you go north or west unless you leave North America, but for sailing you go south. Key West Race week is a thing of the past for 2007 but there are still other opportunities in Florida. A good friend and Laser Masters sailor posted an item on the Laser web site which makes Laser sailing in Florida in February sound too good to be true

Dear frozen or semi-frozen Laser sailors.

I just wanted to remind you that those of us smart or lucky enough to be living in Florida are enjoying fantastic sailing weather. My Farmers Almanac and long range NOAA forecast promise 12 - 18 kts of breeze out of the South-east, temperatures in the mid 70's to low 80's, humidity below 60%, and beautifuly blue skies for the period Feb 10 to Feb 15. Feb 16, 17 & 18, only change is wind will be from the SW.

What a great forecast!! Amazingly it coincides with three great Masters Sailing events - the Florida Masters aka the Jack Swenson Masters in West Palm Beach, ocean sailing at its finest, Midweek Madness in Jensen Beach with a little instruction and a lot of fun, the and Masters Midwinters.

So get out of the tundra and head south for fun sailing in sunshine! See ya there!!

Oh yeah, I just got off the phone with Andy Levine of the Tackle Shack. He will have his supply trailer in West Palm Beach and has charters available for Palm Beach and the Midweek Madness for the rollback rate of $100 per race day. Boats will be on site the day before regatta. Call him at 800-537-6099 or email andy@tshack.com

So if you can't drive here, fly!!!
