NOT SMITH POINT - PLENTY
OF WIND - AHHHHHHHHHHH! CCV's NOT SMITH POINT RACE was a
tour around southern Bay marks, a break from the windward-leeward routine.
Yesterday Sea Star, Rhumb Line, Movin' On and
Black Widow were the tour leaders. 32 boats refused to listen to
the "We're doomed, doomed" talk on the weather channels and got in a
great day of racing in winds that built from 8-10 at the start to 16 true when
the first boat to finish (Scherherazade) crossed the line.
Fleets A and B ran an 18.54 nm course that included a nice 6
mile power reach, and Fleets C and Non-Spin went 15.49 nm.

At the FBYC Cluhbouse today, using the new wireless high speed connection, we finally set up on Line Registration for the upcoming Annual regatta on August 14. There is a link to the event and the On Line Registration at the top left corner of the web page.

SCREWPILE WRAP UP:
Each morning the wind had the makings of a nice racing breeze, but by
each mid-afternoon the wind took a powder, and left racers wishing for more than
they had. Hard working race committees got in 4 races (1 on Sunday,
2 on Monday, and 1 on Tuesday). The parties were top of the line and event
organizers have been showered with positive comments from racers. After
all, wind is wind and no matter what, "you play the cards you're dealt" ,
as Maverick would say.
Three
southern Bay boats did especially well: John Hanna's
Battlewagon, Pearson 37, finished 2nd in the largest fleet (PHRF 4 - 23
boats), Paul Anderson …

One of the goals for the year has been to install high-speed wireless internet access at FBYC for members. Today Brandy Kennard called Rear Commodore Lud Kimbrough to report that it now is up and operating upstairs and outside on the porch, with downstairs yet to be tested.
The installation has not been without difficulty, but Brandy and Lud are to be congratulated on a good job. Thanks to you both. Now there are no excuses to not spending more time at the River. Those who wish to gain access to the wi-fi network will need to consult with one of our technicians.

This year's Leukemia Regatta was again a phenonemal success. Thank you to all the sponsors and those who participated in all our events. Starting with the Jr. Challenge, Kayak Tour and Poker Run in May, followed by the Sail-a-Thon and Arts at FBYC in June, ending with the Regatta weekend made this year's Regatta Series the best one yet,raising over $150,000. A special thanks to our top Fundraiser Paul Nezi who raised over $14,000 and all the other sailors that worked so hard to raise money for the Leukemia Society.

SONG TO HELP DISABLED SAILING

Some of the proceeds from sales of a CD featuring a song about sailing are to help raise awareness of disabled sailing.
Sailing is one of the sports featured in the Paralympic Games which take place in Athens this September, and to mark the occasion, UK singer/songwriter Peter Brodie has released a CD with 10 tracks including 'Summer Breeze', a ballad about going sailing. For every copy of the CD sold during 2004, Brodie is donating one US Dollar to the International Foundation for Disabled Sailing (IFDS).
IFDS is the body responsible for disabled sailing around the world, including sailing for people with physical disabilities, blindness, deafness and learning …

On Friday July 2, eight FBYC Juniors participated in the Hampton Yacht Club Junior Regatta. William and Natalie Wirt participated in the 30 boat Opti Fleet, and FBYC entered 3 of the Club 420s in a fleet of 12 420s. Our 420s included Alex OToole and Eliza Strickland, Strother Scott and Thomas Jenkins, and Kathryn Clinard and Lina Scott. Coach Rob Wright accompanied the race team.
In the first 420 race, Alex and Eliza has a great start and had clear air in the light conditions. Strother was in equally good position, until he and Thomas ran into problems with a port-starboard situation and had to do a 720 (the boat they hit went on to win the race …
Sailing Instructions for the PHRF boats for the 6th ANNUAL LEUKEMIA CUP REGATTA SOUTHERN CHESAPEAKE SAILING SERIES have been posted, as well as Leukemia Class Sailing Instructions, which are for the Cruising/Classic boat class.

There will be a dinner at the main clubhouse beginning at 5pm. Ice cream to follow the race, back at the clubhouse, as your reward.

On Saturday, June 26, FBYC held the combined Junior Regatta and Virginia State Opti Championships. There was a terrific turnout. There were 31 Optis on the Championship Course, including top Opti Red and Blue Fleet sailors from all over the Bay, plus four intrepid FBYC White Fleeters: Ben Buhl; Kramer Koedel; Austin Powers and Alex Jacob. As a new FBYC record, there were 15 Optis in the Green Fleet, all but one of which were from FBYC. FBYC's Alex Jacob and Austin Powers were 2nd and 3rd in the White Fleet and all Green Fleet sailors received Participation Awards.

6th Annual SOUTHERN CHESAPEAKE BAY LEUKEMIA CUP
REGATTA is all set for racing on Saturday, July 10. CBYRA
sanctioned event for appropriate fleets plus a cruising fleet and a classics
classes division. For those from the mid and southern parts of our region,
this is also a chance to "race your way" to Screwpile. Stop in Fishing Bay
to do the Leukemia Cup Regatta, leave the boat there until the appropriate day
the following week, and then move on up to Screwpile. Now, there's
