Perpetual Trophies

FBYC has a wide number of perpetual trophies awarded annually. Further information about the trophies and winners of those trophies can be found on the links shown:

RECENT YEAR TROPHY WINNERS - a listing of each trophy awarded last sailing season.

ALLEN B. FINE TROPHY - Presented in 1985 by former Commodore Allen B. Fine, this award is to be awarded to the outstanding crewman of a Fishing Bay Yacht Club enrolled yacht.

ANNUAL RACE COMMITTEE TROPHY - Presented in 1996 by Past Commodore David R. Lee as a perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to the Fishing Bay Yacht Club member who has made the greatest contribution to race committee work and race management at Fishing Bay Yacht Club

BAKER BOWL- Presented by Mr. Joseph B. Baker in 1951. Award of the trophy is for outstanding performance in the one-design award class for the season. Since 2010, the award class has been the Flying Scot.

BARBER TROPHY - Presented in 1985 by the members of MORC Station 70, this trophy shall be awarded annually to the FBYC enrolled yacht in the PHRF A, B or C Class with the best score during the regular racing season in FBYC Offshore Division sponsored series events.

BECCA BOAT TROPHY - Presented in 2008 in memory of Rebecca “Becca” Clary Harris, this award shall be given each year to the female FBYC junior who most exemplifies Becca’s devotion to FBYC.

BLANTON BOWL - Presented by Mr. R. E. B. Blanton in 1951, this trophy is for outstanding performance in the one-design award class for the season. Since 1973, Laser/ILCA has been the award class.

BRENTON S. HALSEY, JR. MEMORIAL TROPHY - This trophy is to be awarded on a perpetual basis to the winner of the Brenton S. Halsey, Jr. Memorial Regatta, now known as the “Stingray Point Regatta.”

CAROLINE COLLINS TROPHY - The Caroline Collins Trophy was presented to Fishing Bay Yacht Club by Commodore Russ Collins in July 1992. This trophy is to be awarded to the Young Lady who has the highest standing in the Junior Regatta's Laser competition.

CHESAPEAKE LASER MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY   - Presented in 1981 by Alain Vincey as a perpetual award to be awarded annually to the winner of a series of races in Lasers sailed by persons 35 years of age or older who are members of FBYC, CBYRA, or other recognized yacht club or association.

COMMODORES' BOWL - Presented in 1949 by the Commodores of the Club who held office from its organization in 1938 to 1949, this award is made annually to the outstanding Skipper who is a member of Fishing Bay Yacht Club, for their outstanding achievements in the world of sailing. The selection of the recipient shall be determined by the Commodore considering the quality of events, the rarity of the achievement, and performance in FBYC and non-FBYC events. 

COMPETITION TROPHY - Presented in 1982 by former Commodore Beverly L. Crump, this is a perpetual award to recognize the skipper or skippers (who must be members of FBYC) of a yacht or yachts enrolled in the Club Register, who have most successfully represented FBYC in sailboat racing events conducted by other yacht clubs or associations during the past year.

FISHING BAY CHALLENGE BOWL - Presented in 1995 by Past Commodore Ian G. Lorimer, this perpetual trophy is to be used by Fishing Bay Yacht Club to select a boat or boats to represent the Club in a designated sailing activity.

HENRY E. HUTCHESON, JR. MEMORIAL TROPHY - Established in 1947 in honor of Henry E. Hutchinson, this trophy is for outstanding performance in the one-design award class for the season. The Optimist has been the award class since 1989.

HICKS TROPHY - This perpetual trophy was established in 1966 in recognition of Allan Hicks This award is made annually to the winner of the Club's one-design long distance race for yachts 20' lwl and under.

HUBARD TROPHY - Presented in 1989 by Commodore Harrison Hubard, Jr., and long time Junior Activities Chairman, Kenzie Sinnickson Hubard, as a perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to the outstanding woman sailor of Fishing Bay Yacht Club.

J/70 CLINARD CUP - Presented in 2015 by Commodore R. Noel Clinard. The award is for outstanding performance and participation in J/70 regattas at FBYC and elsewhere, and will be awarded to the boat with the highest number of points in the specified events selected by the presiding J/70 Fleet Captain.

JOHN R. HAWKSWORTH MEMORIAL TROPHY - In 2010, the Board of Trustees and the Hawksworth Family established a perpetual trophy in recognition of John R. Hawksworth. This award shall be given to a one design skipper who has been most competitive as measured both by the degree to which he has consistently been at the top of his class and the number of boats against which he has competed.

JUNIOR COMPETITION TROPHY - Presented in 1996 by Paul W. Howle, III, and L. Brooks Zerkel, Jr., as a perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to the Junior skipper or skippers (who must be members of FBYC) of a yacht or yachts enrolled with the Yacht Club, who have most successfully represented the Yacht Club in sailboat racing events conducted by other yacht clubs or associations during the Regular Racing Season.

L. WOOD BEDELL TROPHY - Presented by Mr. L. Wood Bedell in 1969. This annual award goes to a member of the Junior Sailing Program who has not reached the age of 14 and has placed highest in FBYC races during the Regular Racing Season.

MATTHEW FONTAINE MAURY BOWL - In 1973, an award was created by gift of the Cruising Class, made possible by the special generosity of Reid Dunn and Ray Toms. The basis for the award is "outstanding contribution to sailing."

NOTT MEMORIAL TROPHY -This award is made to the skipper of a One Design Yacht that is enrolled in the Club Yacht Register and a member of an active FBYC Fleet that finishes the greatest fraction of FBYC sponsored One Design events in which a start for the specific One Design fleet is offered and open to all the fleet skippers, both Sanctioned and Non-Sanctioned events to be counted.

OFFSHORE DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY - Presented in 1980 by former Commodore Brenton S. Halsey as a perpetual award to recognize the skipper of the outstanding Cruising Class (renamed Offshore Division) yacht as determined by an objective standard applied over the Regular Racing Season.

PATRICK A GIBSON MEMORIAL TROPHY - Presented in 1973 by the Penguin Class, this award is for the one-design class that has shown the highest level of participation in Club events during each sailing season and for the Fleet Captain of that class.

PERFORMANCE TROPHY - Presented in 1972 by Commodore Mason Smith as a perpetual award for yachts enrolled in the Offshore Division of the Club Register. The award is made to the yacht finishing the greatest number of FBYC sponsored events during the Regular Racing Season, both Sanctioned and Non-Sanctioned events to be counted.

PIANKATANK TROPHY - The Piankatank River Trophy was presented to the Club in 1951. It recognizes the FBYC skipper or skippers whose actions during the sailing season best exemplify the principle that "all is not lost until the boat sinks."

POTTS SOUTHERN BAY CHALLENGE CUP  - Presented in 1971 by Commodore Allen Potts for inter-club match race competition. The Potts Southern Bay Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the team of boats that has the lowest total points during the Stingray Point Regatta.

REID A. DUNN TROPHY - Presented in 1969 by the Board of Trustees in honor of the Club's first Commodore, Reid A. Dunn, this award is made annually to the member of the Junior Program between the ages of 14 and 18 who has demonstrated outstanding sailing abilities by placing highest in FBYC races during the Regular Racing Season.

ROBERTS BOWL - Presented in 1962 by members of the Club in honor of Mr. William C. B. Roberts, this award is made annually to the member of the Junior Program who has shown the most interest in sailing.

SPORTSMANSHIP TROPHY - The Sportsmanship Trophy was presented to Fishing Bay Yacht Club by Commodore Russell Collins in August 1992. This trophy is to be awarded to the Offshore or One Design Division skipper who displays the best sportsmanship in the Regular Racing Season.

UP AND COMING TROPHY- Presented in 1999 by Jan Monnier and Mike Fehn, the Up and Coming Trophy is to be awarded annually to the junior member of Fishing Bay Yacht Club is under 15 years of age and racing an Optimist in at least 3 FBYC or interclub race events with Optimist starts.

WAYLAND W. RENNIE CRUISING AWARD - Presented in 1997 by the Cruising Division as a perpetual trophy to be awarded annually to the Fishing Bay Yacht Club member for support of the Cruising Division and for cruising the Chesapeake Bay with a sense of adventure in comradeship with fellow sailors.

WINDWARD START TROPHY - Presented in 1985 by former Commodore Wayland W. Rennie, this trophy shall be awarded annually to the FBYC enrolled yacht in the PHRF non -Spinnaker Class or Cruising Class with the best score during the regular racing season in the FBYC Offshore Division sponsored series events.

YOUNG SALT TROPHY - The Young Salt Trophy was presented in 1988 to Fishing Bay Yacht Club by Commodore F. Case Whittemore. This trophy is to be awarded annually to the Junior member of Fishing Bay Yacht Club sailing an Optimist who has the highest overall standing in the Fishing Bay Yacht Club Junior Regattas.
