OPENING DAY REGATTA Event Notice
Saturday April 13, 2019

Needs edits

The race committee will determine whether to use PHRF of the Chesapeake Bay CR Handicaps.  If so determined, the RC will notify the fleet by radio prior to the start of the race.

We welcome all racers, cruisers, their families, and guests to this family-friendly event to kick-start a great year of sailing.  A great tradition at Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Opening Day begins with an Offshore Regatta.

DESCRIPTION This regatta will consist of one race for PHRF (A, B, C, NON-SPIN) sailboats holding a valid PHRF of the Chesapeake certificate, one design classes, and CRUISING Class sailboats having a handicap rating assigned by FBYC.

The format for all boats will be one medium distance race around government and drop marks. PHRF NON-SPIN will be sailed allowing only one (1) headsail downwind.

SKIPPERS' MEETING There will be a Flag Raising and Skippers’ Meeting at 0900 hours at the flagpole adjacent to the Jackson Creek parking lot to review any changes to the GSIs and SIs for the offshore races.

WARNING The warning signal for the first start will be at 1100.

STARTING AREA The Committee Boat will be in the general vicinity of Piankatank R. Lt. R “2” Fl R 4s (FBYC “F”).

TIME LIMIT If one boat in a class finishes within five (5) hours of the actual start time of the race for that class, then the race will be valid for all boats in that class.

Blessing of the Fleet, Dinner, and Entertainment

Following the Regatta, the bar at Ric's Place will open at 5:00 but will close at 5:30 for one of the best traditional events of the year - the Blessing of the Fleet by the Club's Chaplain, Doug Anderson

The bar will reopen, the music begins, and dinner will be served at 6:00:

- Buffet dinner by White House Catering includes:  roast beef sliders, crabcake sliders, marinated chicken skewers, seared diver scallops, three-cheese macaroni, chicken tenders for the kids and Brownies, cookies, and fruit.

- Music provided by Alex Crain’s Private Stock Band.
