CRUISERS: SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 4TH OF JULY CRUISE
Updated 6.02.25
So what does Urbanna have in common with Salt Lake City, Lake Tahoe and Boulder? And
how does it all tie into the July 4th weekend? Be part of the traditional FBYC 4th of July Cruise
and experience a non-traditional celebration of the 4th.
.
We will cruise to Urbanna and stay at Urbby Marina and be with fellow club members and
Urbby’s owners Amy and Andy Anderson for a great weekend celebration. The town of
Urbanna has contracted for the first Drone Light Show on Chesapeake Bay in lieu of
fireworks. This new form of celebration is being used by many communities, such as those
above, to replace fireworks which are expensive and can be dangerous. While many of us
have enjoyed the chest thumping booms and bangs in past years, this newer form of
celebration can be considered “sky art” and is used all over the country to celebrate.
Schedule:
Friday, July 4th; cruise to Urbanna staying at Urrby Marina. FBYC cocktails and snacks on
land. BYOB and a dish to share. Dinner on your own on your boat or in town.
https://urbanna.com/pages/dining-in-Urbanna.php Grills are available at the Marina.
Amy and Andy are taking those who would like to go to Williamsburg Friday night to enjoy
the fireworks at Colonial Williamsburg. Contact Amy directly at the marina (804-441-4304).
Saturday, July 5th; for those who can’t come Friday you can sail to the marina today.
Activities in town include a community yard sale, and shopping in town. A special program
by museum volunteer Jim Robusto will be held in the afternoon. Following his great
presentation on the Mitchell Map to FBYC members last fall, he will introduce a new
program on James Mills, the Scottish “Factor” who managed the port’s store in colonial
days. FBYC members and owners of Urrby will host us and their residents of the marina to
a 4th of July cook out and provide the hamburgers and hot dogs! Bring a dish to share. A
band has been booked! The Drone Show will begin at dark.
Sunday: group breakfast at “to be determined”. Sail home or to your next destination.
Sign up now at FBYC’s site. The leaders will handle reservations at the Marina for the
group to help Andy and Amy reduce the paperwork. Payment should be made upon arrival
($2.25/ft includes electricity).
Note: Suggestion: the Club’s Annual Long-Distance Race and Fourth of July Cookout are
on Friday the 4th. Package it with the cruise on the 5th -6th!
