All junior sailors - ages 8 to 17 - there is a fee and advanced registration is required. On-line registration is available and encouraged-see www.fbyc.net. Space is limited and there is an additional fee for late registration (space available only).

Junior Week is our largest sailing program. All of our Juniors (ages 8 to 17), and most of their parents, get together for a week of sailing, racing, and socializing and family fun. There is also an opportunity for teenagers (with the right skills and demeanor) to work as Coaches in Training (Senior CIT) and build their sailing resume. We may also offer parent sailing classes on Flying Scots during junior on-the-water classes. There will be a racing clinic (Optis/420/Laser) led by our Head and Assistant Coaches Friday afternoon in preparation for the first FBYC Junior Regatta on Saturday.

Volunteers with powerboats are always welcome to be on the water. Camping is available and housing/transport/meals available through our program with Christchurch School

FBYC Race Team is the highest level of club junior sailing. Sailors with Optimists Lasers and 420’s and take their sailing to a higher level will want to join the race team. Completion of Intermediate Optimist Class or equivalent is required for Opti sailors, as is a desire to participate in regattas. Registration and a fee are required.

On-line registration is available and encouraged - see http://www.fbyc.net/Juniors.

Program begins immediately following Junior Week and consists of regularly scheduled classroom sessions (typically during the weekday mornings) followed by on the water training/practice (typically in the afternoons) and travel to regional and national events. Requires parent volunteer for a minimum of two weekday events. A practice/travel schedule will be issued this spring. Extended Race Team participants are encouraged to also attend (separate fee) Junior Week to kick off their summer racing program.

We will be arranging a carpool to get kids from Richmond to the club during the week and will have housing/food/transportation available at nearby Christchurch School for much of the summer. In some cases, overnight housing may be provided by participating parents on an as-available basis. We’ll be arranging for parent chaperones for weekday practices and to help with the events.
