July 4th Distance Race and Cookout Social Sat, July 4, 2026

DESCRIPTION Come join us for the Annual Long Distance Race and Fourth of July Cookout. This cookout is for everyone, not just racers! Bring your picnic blanket and lawn chair! There is an exciting Long Distance race followed by a cook out with picnic-inspired dishes and a selection of dessert items. 

The course will use government marks in the Piankatank River and Piankatank Channel. The Portsmouth Yardstick D-PN-2 Handicap System will be used to score finishes. NO OPTIS WILL RACE IN THE LONG DISTANCE RACE DUE TO LONG DISTANCE AND RISK OF OPPRESSIVE HEAT.

CLASSES Any sailboat 20’ length and under at the waterline. The Portsmouth handicap system (DPN-2) will be used for scoring.

REGISTRATION All participants must register prior to the start of the first race. Upon registration all participants must enter their appropriate DPN-2 rating to be scored (view the list of ratings at the bottom of this archive link). Event registration, information and notices can be found at the event website on Regatta Network.  In Regatta Network, click "REGISTER" to sign up for the race. Registration will be available by June 15, 2026.

PROGRAM

• 0930 - Welcome and Late Registration (via Regatta Network only)
• 1000 - Skippers Meeting (charts of potential courses will be handed out!)
• 1100 - Warning signal for all classes
• 1700 On-shore Happy Hour and gathering
• 1730-1900 Dinner served
• 1700-2000 Music and yard games

AWARDS The overall winner on corrected time by the boat 20' and under at the water line will receive the Hicks Trophy.
