one beautiful.  Most are berthed at Bluewater Yachting Center (Sunset Creek

Wednesday, October 31.
FROSTBITE  #1:  VOODOO 2, COOL CHANGE,
APRIL TIDE, and VALKYRIE  open with
wins.  Blustery?? And, chilly??  What the...?
Twenty-two (of 25 entered) boats raced yesterday, undeterred by cool temps and
hefty breezes that started out near 20 kts and eventually tapered off to
10-12.  It was cool enough on the water for sets of foulies to be hauled
from the bottoms of the sailing bags, but not too bad.  RESULTS:
PHRF A (7 boats) - 1.Voodoo 2. Leroi Lissenden;
2.Feather, Phil Briggs; 3.Flying Colors,
Richard Payne.  PHRF B (8 boats) - 1.Cool
Change, Rusty Burshell; 2.Strega, Neal
Garrett;  3.Independence, Graham
Field.  PHRF C (3 boats) - 1.April Tide,
Tim Ketten; 2.Lona B, Carey
Hardesty.  PHRF non-Spin (4 boats) - 1.Valkyrie,
Karl Petersen; Treaty of Ghent, Jim Williams /
Will Roberts.  PRO - Dick Boykin.

Bluewater racers:  As the 2008 season
gets underway there will be bluewater races, like the Lauderdale to Miami, the
Newport Bermuda, and others,  that southern Bay racers are
considering.  Here's one way to save a little bit of money while equipping
the boat to go "out of sight of land".  BoatUS RENTS  406-MHz
Emergency Position Indicating Beacons (EPIRB).  The cost is $40
per week for a maximum rental of six weeks.   For info call
BoatUS at 1-888-66-EPIRB (37472).
MURPHY'S LAW:  You do
not have to go offshore to put an EPIRB to good use.  Yrs Truly,
The Racing Beagle is seriously considering renting one next year for
major regatta parties.  Imagine, you could set it off when it was
time to go home and your friends could find you easily underneath the beer
truck,  in the wrong restroom at the marina on the Eastern Shore, or
wherever....    /S/  Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing
spirit in us all.
