SLEEPYHEAD ALERT - DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDED EARLY
 YESTERDAY MORNING.   IF YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE IN THE OFFICE RIGHT
NOW, THAT IS WHY!
Fluky-shifty winds in FROSTBITE #2 caused
constant shuffling of positions within the fleets Sunday.  Boats dropped
from first to last and recovered to somewhere in between.  This was the
kind of race that allowed crew members to actually get to know one another;
there was time to detail family histories, tell career plans, and share personal
dentist recommendations while waiting and hoping for the next puff.
That given, patience  and determination did pay off, and the last boat
finished just before 4:30pm.  RESULTS:  PHRF A -
1.Mirage, Christian Schaumloffel; 2.Voodoo 2,
Leroi Lissenden; 3.Feather, Phil
Briggs;  PHRF B - 1.Wham Bam,
Dave Taylor; 2.Strega, Neal Garrett;
3.Bad Habit, Bob Archer.  PHRF C -
1.Incentive, Ron Lewis; 2.Spray,
Bumps Eberwine; 3.Quicky, Mike
Veraldi.  PHRF Non-Spin - 1.Treaty of
Ghent, Jim Williams/Will Roberts; 2.Riptide,
Marty Steffens; 3.Valkyrie, Karl
Petersen.  PRO - Dick Boykin.   29 boats
raced.

What is a GABOON?  Webster's
Unabridged Dictionary  offers two possibilities:  1. a soft,
 reddish-brown wood ...  and, 2. a large, venomous
snake....   But, the most important meaning of all is that it is the
name of the  annual GABOON RACE, set for Sunday, December 2.
This year is the 30th Anniversary of the event.   Line up your crew
now, 'cause this is going to be a happening.  PHRF limits on the number of
crew do not apply,  but you must have a valid PHRF certificate with at
least a 5P equipment category.   For details or to enter, contact
Phil Briggs at (757) 244-5477.    The Gaboon Race is a
staggered start (pursuit) race  sailed in Hampton Roads harbor and
sponsored by HYC.
