A Landmark Passes -  One of the 2 boats that did not finish yesterday's CCV Founders' Race, Leo Wardrup's Black Widow, dropped out not because of gear failure or crew breakdown, but because they had tickets (they said) to attend the Jimmy Buffet appearance at the official closing of one of the area's oldest, best know watering holes, the Duck Inn.  The entrance to Lynnhaven Inlet will not be anything like it used to be... too bad.

Mad dogs and Englishmen ... and old Farts go out in the midday sun!  Five boats full of beloved "Old Farts" turned out Saturday for the annual Tom Brady Masters Race.  Three boats finished the 4 mile race sailed under JAM  (jib and main) only limitations.  The annual event is sponsored by Hampton YC and always includes a lively post-race social opportunity!  Ben Weeks' Rumble finished 1st, Phil Brigg's Feather 2nd, and Louie Lewis' Incentive 3rd.  Everyone on board had to be at least 55 and each boat had to be at least 10 years old.  Race chairman was Malcolm Brady.

Greg Thomas and Jacques Bernier from San Diego won the 2005 Formula 18 [catamaran] North Americans with a string of 1-1-1-1-1-4-10-2-1-1.  Thirty-eight top notch teams sailed all week to decide the championship. So, from Buckroe Beach to Austria to represent the US Multihull Team in the 2006 ISAF World Games. Special kudos to southern Bay homies: Tracie Van Houten, who honcho-ed the entire event, and Dennis Hawks with whom Tracie sailed and to Dan Winters, Tyler Moore, and John McCarthy, who served on the regatta protest committee.

MURPHY'S LAW:    How hot is it?  It is so hot that even the fleas on this racing beagle are huffin', puffin', and sweatin'.  /S/  Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
