MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  CBYRA Vice-President for Region 4, Tom Roberts has announced that the CBYRA Region High Point Awards (2005) Presentation Dinner will be held at Fishing Bay Yacht Club on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25th.  Plans are for the soiree to begin around 5-5:30 pm with a social gathering, followed by dinner and the actual awards presentation at 7:00 pm.  Watch for detailed info regarding menu and cost in coming issues.  Attendees will be able to register on line at the FBYC website once menu and pricing specifics are firm.  Remember, this is a great opportunity to see friends receive awards for last year's accomplishments.
THURSDAY,  FEBRUARY 2nd,  IS GROUNDHOG DAY!   Hope for a cloudy day so that The Groundhog, when he pokes his nose out of his hole, is not frightened back underground by the sight of his shadow, thereby extending winter another 6 weeks!   It's on all of us - we have got to hope for a rainy day.

US SAILING Race Management Seminar - February 18-19.  Two half-day sessions (0900 - 1300), at Hampton Yacht Club in Hampton, VA.  This course is designed for those with some race management experience as well as newcomers.  It meets the course requirement for certification and for certification renewal as a US SAILING Club Race Officer.  The certification test will be given at the conclusion of the course; taking this test is optional for any participant.  Presented by John McCarthy and Glenn Giles.  For detailed information and/or to register, you may go to www.ussailing.org/racemgt/Seminars   or call John or Lin at (757) 850-4225.  Register now - the class is filling and is already more than 80% full.  Cost is $40.

The new owner of  [formerly owned by Bill Peach]  Surprise! , the Alerion Express that lives up to her description as "the prettiest girl at the dance", has southern Bay racing roots and hopes to return to the sport this Spring.  Royden Goodson will be sailing out of Hampton, and  Surprise!  will not even have to go through re-location "trauma".

Word is that Sea Star,  got the " star treatment"  from the Wormley Creek Marina and Boat Yard folks.  Dave Eberwine says her hull looks beautiful.  She had to have "restoration repairs", aka Hollywood-speak for plastic surgery,  after a  bump and bite suffered in one of the races last season.  She is on the hard still and will return home in plenty of time for the 2006 season.

CCV 2006 Membership Application Forms are in the mail for renewals.  CCV Racing offers their special Racing Membership which covers a boat's entry fees for 14 of the 15 CCV High Point Races (Southern Bay Race Week, Day 3, requires a separate entry under the SBRW procedure).  There is a Club Membership ($25) for crew members and friends who want to stay in touch and support the racing community and for skippers who want to enter individual races "as they go".  ALL CCV members, Racing and Club, receive as a part of their membership a copy of the 2006 CCV Racing Guide.  Contact any CCV officer or Board member or CCV Secretary - Treasurer Tom Peddy  (757) 651-6804, for info on obtaining a copy of the membership application form.

50 racers, skippers and crew, honed their racing rules knowledge and traded sea stories Saturday at the 2006 SBRNYCU Racing Rules Seminar presented by John McCarthy at Hampton Yacht Club.  The room was as jam packed as the rail of a tender race boat in 25 from the northwest.

Young sailors gearing up!  The pups are getting ready for the coming season too - 48 youngsters have signed up already for the PRYC 2-week kid sailing session this summer.  Now is a good time to check with your local sailing associations, yacht clubs, and/or schools regarding programs for the ankle-biters and older.   Most organizations have a plan for non-members as well as members - it never hurts to ask!

MURPHY'S LAW:  Super Bowl Sunday is coming up!  This dog likes to watch football, but until they replace the grass with deep water, add currents, sandbars,  and unpredictable wind, and put the players in fiberglass saucers, it won't  match sailboat racing for me.  These Super Bowl Parties, however... now they ARE state of the art!    /S/  Murphy the Racing Beagle, the sailing spirit in us all.
