College of Charleston has Success at Home While Struggling in Tough Conditions at Kings Point

Blake Kimbrough on Wednesday September 22, 2004 11:19AM

The College of Charleston sailing team took victories in the A-Division and B-Division to win the North South #2 Regatta held this past weekend at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Eckerd placed second in the regatta, while The Citadel rounded out the top three.

Russ O'Reilly, Blake Kimbrough, Suzy Lintern, Anne Bowen and Diane Haynesworth crewed the A-Division to first with 36 points. The B-Division saw Chris Lash, Sara Wilkinson, Meg Callanan, and Katie Hughes take the win with 21 points.

At Kings Point conditions were extreme with winds in the thirties on Saturday which resulted in cacellation of sailing for the first day of the regatta. Sunday had winds in the mid to upper twenties, which gave our light weighted team a big handicap while sailing in the Vanguard 15s.

The College of Charleston sailing team placed 10th in the A-Division, 12th in the B-Division and 13th in the C-Division to finish 15th at the Nevins Trophy Regatta held this past weekend at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. Boston won the event with 60 total points.

Jose Fuentes, Liz McCarthy and Hunter Stunzi crewed the A-Division and picked up 52 points for 10th. Brendean Healy, Savannah Morton and Stunzi crewed the B-Division to 12th with 55 points. Patrick Wilson sailed the B-Division to 13th with 54 points to round out the Cougar efffort.
