Crew training

Courtesy of Carolyn and Ken Schmalenbeger the club had a booth at the Richmond Boat Show January 12-14 and recruited 33 crew candidates for the coming season. While the majority were interested in racing on off-shore boats the candidates included two Juniors interested in One Design Sailing and a retired USAF Navigator from Omaha whose sailing career started in Lasers in the mid-70's who may be interested in crewing on a Flying Scot.

For those who recruit crew from this group you owe thanks to Ed O'Connor, Mike Dale, Mike Miller, Sharon Bauer, Dennis and Kay King, Frank Reichel, Joe Roos, Brad Miller, Brooks Zerkel, Leroi Lissenden, Scott and Susan Birch, and John Wake for giving up their time to staff the booth. Also to two non-members, Chris Tulip and Bonnie Black, who have become regular crew on Oracle after joining our off shore program four and two years ago respectively.

In the Annapolis area it is traditional to hold get-togethers in a social setting for skippers and crew candidates and we plan to copy this lead by holding meetings at Shacklefords and the Legend Brewery over the next two months. Watch the Log and the web site for times. On-the-water crew training sessions are scheduled for April 1, 7 and 14, all leading up to Opening Day on April 21.
