FBYC Reopening – July Update

Tracy Schwarzschild on Tuesday June 30, 2020 12:27PM

As we move though the phased reopening, our primary goal remains to provide a safe and healthy environment for our members, staff and community.  Numerous volunteers across all aspects of the Club have dedicated a tremendous amount of time in planning and preparation to get to this point.  Many programs and activities are going forward this year, although maybe not quite in the same fashion as in years past.

But even as we begin to enjoy more of the reopening at FBYC, the environment around CoVid is changing. We are constantly reassessing how this affects our operations and activities. Rules and programs may continue to change as we move through the summer and fall. The key to success of these and all efforts at FBYC is the engagement of the membership. This means being considerate of other members and staff, sharing your ideas and time, engaging in social distancing and other safe behaviors and using common sense.

In this update, we highlight the plans for the July 4th holiday and opening of the pool.

For the July 4th weekend, we are looking forward to racing on both Friday and Saturday.  Although we will not be holding the Cookout social originally planned on the Fourth, all are invited to come by, bring your own food to grill out and enjoy the great day outside at Fishing Bay – but please practice social distancing and use face coverings when appropriate.  We will have cold water and cold beverages about so please enjoy.

We are excited to announce the planned opening of the FBYC pool this weekend. This should provide some welcome respite as the heat of summer descends upon us.

Many area pools are not opening this year. To open the FBYC pool and comply with the mandated requirements, we are implementing a number of additional safety measures that we ask members to abide by.  Social distancing is an important part of pool opening. To support this mandatory requirement, the amount of pool furniture has been reduced and intentionally configured to support distancing; we have adopted a reservation system to reduce crowding during peak usage periods, and we are asking adult members to accompany their children when visiting the pool. Please understand that these guidelines and rules are designed for the safety of all members and we hope that we can keep the pool open if they are respected and followed.  We do ask that no additional personal furniture (chairs) be brought into the pool area at this time

Some specific items to promote your safe enjoyment of the pool this summer include:

-Pool hours have not changed; the Pool will be open 7 days a week.

-There are mandatory capacity/social distancing requirements.  There will be predetermined pool zones for members to use to promote social distancing. We ask that members refrain from relocating chairs or bringing other chairs into the pool area or Ric’s place.

- Everyone is required to use hand sanitizer before entering the pool area.

- Friday through Sunday reservations are required to use the pool area during peak hours.  Reservations are available for 90 minute increments followed by scheduled closure for cleaning. Reservations must be made in advance and can be requested starting on Monday for the following weekend. When the pool area periodically closes throughout the day for scheduled cleaning, we ask that you leave the pool area and Ric’s Place during these cleaning periods.

- Members can make reservations at https://www.fbyc.net/members-only/2020-fbyc-pool/

- The rules for pool use by juniors require that an adult member of every party understand these policies and be responsible for ensuring a safe experience for other members and our staff.
