Press gang to seek crew at Boat Show

Press gangs were used through the mid-1800's to provide crew for Her Majesty's Navy. Most of the crew who were pressed into service had prior sailing experience on trading ships. Given the ongoing need for crew at FBYC a latter day version of a press gang will be operating in Richmond over the next three days. All members are welcome to visit the Richmond Boat show and they may get lucky and see the gang in action.

The Richmond Boat Show opens at the Convention Center on Friday at 1 pm and runs through Sunday. Norton Yacht Sales are allowing the club to set up a table at one of their displays and this will be manned throughout the show by members. As well as meeting potential crew members visitors will be able to see an 8 minute power point presentation prepared by Jon Deutsch showing 85 shots of racing action. Our objective is to recruit visitors for our 2006 Crew Training program which will be announced in the February Log. While the initial emphasis is on finding candidates to serve as crew on off-shore boats we will also try to find sailors or would-be sailors interested in One Design sailing.

The forecast is for lower temperatures and rain this coming weekend. It might be good to spend some of that time indoors at the Boat Show.
