2014 Bermuda Race underway with 2 FBYC boats

The 49th Newport Bermuda Race starts today in Newport, RI.  At least 2 boats have FBYC connections - Carina, owned by Rives Potts and Nanuq, owned by Glenn Doncaster.  Both are competing in Class 3 - St. David's Lighthouse division - see scratch sheet - Live race tracking is available at http://pantaenius.us/en/american-yacht-insurance/newport-bermuda-race/live-race-tracking.html  and it will have a 4 hour delay for the first 2 days of the race. Nanuq owned by Glenn Doncaster, and representing FBYC, won Class 6 in the St. David’s Lighthouse Division in the 2018 Newport Bermuda Race   Besides Glenn, other FBYC members on board were Alex O’Toole, Austin Power, Bob Fleck, and Jerry Latell.   Word was they made huge gains in their fleet the last day and a half of the race.  Congratulations to Glenn and Nanuq on an outstanding performance.  NanuqTrophy

Congratulations also go Gannon Troutman who was mid bow on Dreamcatcher, who won Class 5.  Dreamcatcher, a Swan 48, was entered by the MudRatz Offshore Team, a 501(c)3 organization founded to complement youth sailing programs.  At age 15, Gannon was the youngest sailor on Dreamcatcher.  For more about Mudratz …

I am completely amazed how rich the "Corinthian spirit" has been at our club and how many members are volunteering for our upcoming two day regatta.  After a year of being bound by a computer our kids finally have the opportunity to be on the water again to represent our amazing sailing program and club.  We are hosting the Virginia State Championship which is also the season opener for CBYRA.  With registration open for about a month we have been successfully amassing an army of volunteers to serve over 100 sailors along with their family and friends.  As far as the eye can see will be an armada of kids geared and ready to give it their all June 26-27th …
