On Saturday, September 16th the 2023 running of the Wolf Trap regatta nearly could have started with a bang but in actuality, it was a well-played reaching start in a fresh northwesterly breeze leading to a solid spinnaker leg south to the old lighthouse. The keyword for the windward (etc.) return leg was perseverance; Hats off to the B fleet boats that sailed smartly in the backing, clocking, and vanishing winds to best a foul current and finish within the time limit. Hurricane Lee is forecast to remain offshore as it passes Virginia. But the storm may send higher winds & tides to Deltaville over the next few days. We will be making a few preparations at the Club. Please note:

Light rain and approaching thunderstorms limited the 32-boat fleet at the 42nd Chesapeake Bay ILCA Masters Championship at Fishing Bay Yacht Club to just two races on Saturday and no racing on Sunday. James Jacob from Severn Sailing Association won the overall title for his 7th time while Dorian Haldeman from Severn Sailing Association won the women’s title for her 5th time.

What started light, turned into a nice day of racing for 6 ILCA and 5 Melges 15s. After a brief postponement on the water the wind started to fill and 4 races were sailed in a breeze that built to 10-12 out of the ESE. The wind shifted, the course moved and 1 more race was sailed from the SE. Bob & Lisa Fleck, Glenn & Becca Doncaster and Ruthana Jenkins were the race committee.

What a wonderful weekend this past Sat. and Sun. (Aug.12&13) with our annual Women’s Sailing Clinic. We had 16 women participating and sailing! The weather cooperated and the winds were perfect for learning. It is truly amazing to witness the individual growth of sailing skills from two days on the water.

The 6th Annual Jere Dennison Legacy Regatta was a Grand Success! It was a beautiful weather day with 8 to 10 knot winds for the 25 boats registered in four fleets: Flying Scot, Melges 15, Portsmouth, and Portsmouth Classic Three Very Good races were conducted by a quite capable Race Committee chaired by Clark Dennison!
The after race Social/Party and Awards Ceremony was Outstanding! The Social Committee, chaired by Susan Webb, performed "Yeoman's Duty " in causing Jere's Regatta to culminate in a really fun and successful Event !
