Drysail Hoist Gets A Lift

Hoist No matter how big and ugly one might be, we all need someone to love us. The same is true with the drysail hoist. Not the prettiest piece of sailing equipment I've ever seen but for others, the ones it matters to most, its "their baby." Well, finally, its getting some much needed repair. Also, a preventative maintenance inspection is going to be completed. This should reduce routine failures but it will mean that it will be leaving Fishing Bay for a few weeks for a visit to the shop.

It's been interesting, when the notice went out to the drysail members that the beloved hoist was going to be taken down and temporarily removed, perhaps several weeks, a wave of concern flowed in. It seems that several members have used ingenious methods and improvisations to get the crane to work its magic. Car jacks and 2x4's are just a few of the items employed to encourage the uncooperative hoist. Limit switches and needle bearings are just a few of the parts to be examined. The salt air and sun environment is unmerciful on equipment.
Chester Hoist and Crane is doing the job. This firm has been doing the club's work and inspections for some years. Jerry Graham there has been most helpful; without any unforeseen repair/parts discovery the hoist shall be back in time to perform its duties. We expect it to be out for two to three weeks but back in its place well before the Spring Series. Email me if you have further questions or concerns at gilmagic@aol.com
