Congratulations to the FBYC members who made the podium in the 52nd Newport to Bermuda Race. Rives Potts has done very well in many races, and continues to make a name for himself with his crew of family and friends on “Carina.” Glenn Doncaster has had success in this race before, and continued his run with his FBYC crew on “Nanuq,’ including Rebecca Doncaster, Paul Wash, Jerry Latell, and former member Alex Otoole. Here is a quick summary of the conditions of the race courtesy of Jerry Latell:
“We had light air at the beginning and end of the race. And some of it was in leftover slop. The gulf stream crossing was fairly long because of the way it meandered and it was blowing 25-33 most of the time with confused big seas… We hit 16 knots of boat speed a couple of times surfing the big waves…A couple of times I thought for sure the rig was going to just shake itself down. It was pretty violent.”
With over 200 competing boats and these conditions, we’re very proud of the achievements of our fellow Club members! Congrats to everyone who participated!
