FBYC Team Wins J/22 Mid-Atlantic Championship!

Will remarked that it was also a special experience to connect generations of sailors from Fishing Bay in having the opportunity to share the experience with Blair, now 21, who has demonstrated her own skills many times over in the Optimist and Byte classes. This event marks Blair's entry into the J/22 and racing on a larger team level, and she will be following through with a venture into the Women's Rolex Keelboat Championship sailing with Marie Crump in late September.
Scott Collins now a regular standout among the Fishing Bay racing scene as well as the championship party coordinator for the club returned home to flash his shiny trophy in front of his one-year-old daughter Reilly to the response of "Dadda good".
This is the second time that Will has won this particular event. The first was in 1999, but since then, the event has taken on a greater significance because the advent of the Womens' Rolex Keelboat Championship in the J/22's has caused attention for olympic caliber sailors to focus on this event as a warm-up for the Rolex championship. The attached pictures show the gybe at a windward mark that caused the team to gain around 10 boats on the leeward leg and some of the ultimate results of that gybe.
