The 2015 Smith Point race will be remembered for the upwind slog and the downwind glide.  4 fleets sailed varying distances towards Smith Point lighthouse at the entrance to the Potomac River.

Doug Anderson on

Offshore Racing

Over the years the Smith Point Race has provided a range of weather conditions, but none better than this year's "Goldie Locks" presentation.  The winds were just right, the temp and humidity were just right, the rain squalls were just right--they went around us, and the sunset was absolutely just right, as the photos show.

The 3 course options took the fleets on a variety of paths to Smith Point.  The A & B fleets sailed a close reach across the bay to the cut channel before going north (58nm).  The C fleet took a slightly less out of the way route (42mn)  while the non-spin fleet took a direct route (32nm).
