Opti and Laser Development Teams Bring Home the Hardware!

This past weekend, July 23rd through the 26th, was a rocking great time for the Opti and Laser Development Teams! It began Thursday with the teams practicing at the club, and then loading the coach boats and sailboats for the weekend’s first regatta, Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club’s Annual Junior Regatta, on Friday, in Kilmarnock.

The teams left early Friday morning, and as usual, the kids had plenty of nervous butterflies! But our coaches did a wonderful job smoothing out the usual problems and pumping up the sailors. Our kids did great! ODT member Walker …

The mouth of the Piankatank River was the scene of the second regatta of the four event Laser series on Sunday 26 July.  A strong turnout of 10 racers tackled the tactically challenging light to moderate breeze. Once again,  Mark Stephens and his team did an excellent job of adapting to the wind variations throughout the afternoon and was able to complete five races in a little over three hours. Jon Deutsch had a very strong and consistent performance and won the regatta and is the series leader. Full results are posted on  Next up for the Lasers is the 76th edition of the Annual One Design Regatta 8-9 August.  Register now and encourage …

Last Sunday a great article about our own Gannon Troutman, his exploits on the J-70 circuit, and FBYC, appeared on the front page of the Middle Peninsula Daily Press! It is a fascinating story and great publicity for our club. Here is a link to the article, but you must have a subscription to the paper to view it:

The 17th Annual Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta held in Deltaville over the weekend of July 10-12 was another huge success with 61 registered yachts and enthusiastic crowds at the Auction and Gala held for the second consecutive year at the Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park.

Typically the Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta is one of the most successful Leukemia Cup Regattas in the country in spite of being one of the smallest of such national venues, and this year should prove to be no exception. Having four times been voted the Best Regatta on the Bay by the readers of Chesapeake Bay Magazine, the 2015 Regatta is expected to be a strong contender for this honor …
