ORIANA R. HARGROVE
12/29/1928 – 1/18/2010

Mrs. Oriana R. Hargrove, of Hanover County, died on January 18, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank D. Hargrove Sr. (Commodore 1969); daughter, Dale Alderman and husband Rick; sons, Frank Hargrove Jr. and wife Elizabeth, Stewart Hargrove and wife Lynn, and Wellesley Hargrove and wife Kimberly; and 10 grandchildren.

Oriana was born in Richmond and attended Longwood College and Arkansas College. Frank and Oriana knew each other from Thomas Jefferson High School and they were married after he returned from serving in World War II. NYYC invites FBYC to participate in the next NYYC Invitational Cup

Commodore David K. Elwell Jr. announced that the club has invited 26 pre-eminent American yacht clubs to compete for places in the second New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, which will be sailed in Newport, R.I., September 10-17, 2011. Commodore Elwell explained that a number of yacht clubs in the United States had expressed interest in competing in the inaugural event, held in September of 2009. “This invitation for a U.S. Qualifying Series is in response to that interest,” he said. The Qualifying Series will be held in Newport on September 8-11, 2010.

2010 USODA Nationals Planning Accelerates at FBYC

Fishing Bay Yacht Club, home of a highly competitive Junior Sailing Program and host of an acclaimed Opti ACCs in 2004, has gotten off to an early start in planning the 2010 USODA Opti Nationals for July 16-24 in Deltaville, Virginia, which is located on the Middle Chesapeake Bay, 75 miles east of Richmond, Virginia.

The schedule calls for Team Nationals July 17-19, with check-in the 16th, Girls Nationals July 20, with check-in the 19th, and Nationals July 21-24, with check-in the 20th. Advanced check-in for earlier arrivals will be permitted for the latter events. There will be a Green Fleet on a separate course July 21-24 with similar check-in times.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) in partnership with the Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatU.S.) and twelve other trade groups representing 90% of retail gasoline providers, almost all automobile manufacturers and a large majority of motorcycle and non-road equipment manufacturers sent a letter Wednesday to the EPA, Department of Energy (DOE) and The White House concerning the EPA's pending decision on the use of E15 and DOE's Ethanol Research Program.

This issue is important to anyone who owns gasoline-powered tools, equipment, autos, boats, and off-road vehicles or who may have safety or environmental concerns with the current proposals for increasing the amount of ethanol in the nation's gasoline supply.
