The 13th ANNUAL HOSPICE TURKEY SHOOT REGATTA is counting down to October 10-12 - on the Rappahannock River off Carter's Creek and the Corrottoman River.  This is a full blown regatta, including welcoming Happy Hour with live music on Friday, drop mark  courses on Saturday, and a pursuit race (up the river and back) on Sunday,  pre-race breakfasting and post-race eating, drinking and socializing, and, of course, grand awards.  Last year, Turkey Shoot was awarded  "Best of the Bay" by Chesapeake Bay Magazine.  More than 100 boats are expected to join in the fun and race for a good cause.  Winner of the Lightning Division (PHRF racing), will be invited to compete in the National Hospice Regatta …

Today is the First Day of Fall.   Fall means you should locate your socks..., but do not put them on yet!

To Fiddler's GreenDale Moser, a mainstay around southern Bay racing and especially on the Rappahannock River scene, passed last Tuesday, after battling an illness.  He is gone way too soon.    Those who knew Dale will miss him terribly; those who had not known him, have missed a truly gentle man.  "And in the night of death, hope sees a star, and listening love hears the rustle of a wing."

Southern Bay racers made good use of the last day of summer yesterday as the PHRF A and PHRF B fleets sailed …

Web Site Navigation Changing

Club News
Picture 1.jpg If you click on any of the links along the top of the Page, like Club, Sailing, Fleets, you will now see that navigation to pages within those sections are found by taking a look at the list on the left side of each of those pages.

On the Sailing Page, the links on the left currently look like the image to the left. If you click on a different section, like Club, then the sections under Sailing will disappear, and a set of links to pages under Club will open up.

And I will be adding more links - like Members - to the left sidebar. My biggest problem is trying to decide if better names for the links Sailing, Fleets …

Sailing World article re: Leukemia Cup

Noel Clinard on

Leukemia Cup
Shown as the second article under 2008 at http://www.fbyc.net/Sailing/Publicity are the cover and two pages of September 2008 Sailing World mentioning Deltaville and FBYC.

Included are a touching letter from my law partner Doug Garrou who rode with me on LOON as Mark Boat and who has two autistic sons, one with Leukemia. No doubt, his letter, and perhaps our success with FS NACs kept Deltaville and FBYC fresh in the editors' minds.

Also included is the editor's monthly column which mentions Deltaville as being one of the "also ran" small towns with great sailing programs, as an outtake to a major article on America's great sailing towns.

Most interestingly, one can see …

Changing Website Around

Club News
A member has volunteered to assist me in improving the navigation and usefulness of the web site. In anticipation of making some changes to how it might look, I have moved some pages around, and hence you may run across links that do not work. At this moment, missing pages, the Classified, Weather, Links, might be found under Sailing or Web Tools.

If you want a peek at the navigation that we are proposing to the Board on Thursday, please take a look at the top and left side of http://www.fbyc.net/kristen/Club. Notice how the links to Club and Fleet change as you click from one to the other. The idea is to show the users …

Remember there is a new buoy off Stingray Point that gathers wind and weather data. http://www.buoybay.org/site/public/explore/. Just run the mouse over the bouy and it will display current conditions, or click and it will get you more data than you really need.

And as a reminder, at the bottom of every FBYC web page is a Link to the usual weather links found at http://www.fbyc.net/Club/Weather including the National Hurricane Center website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ .

First warning at 10

Additionally we are still planning on having dinner at the clubhouse starting around 6:30pm Saturday evening. The forecast for Hanna has been holding and still appears as if the storm should be out of the area in time to sail on Sunday. Welcome to the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship

Jon Deutsch on

ILCA Logo - Small
On behalf of Fishing Bay Yacht Club I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the sailors planning on attending the Laser Masters Atlantic Coast Championship this weekend. We will be watching Tropical Storm Hanna very closely over the coming hours. The current forecast has the center of the storm going east of us and it appears to be clear enough for at least one full day of sailing on Sunday. With that in mind we are going to be optimistic that the weather will change for the better and give an even bigger window to sail in.Since this is a bit of a tough situation, we have set up an email distribution list for facilitating …

14th Stingray Regatta... FBYC At Its Best!

Mike Dale on

Offshore Racing

What do you get when you throw a regatta and the wind doesn't blow and the caterer is MIA? Well, at FBYC, you get four good races with tight competition over two days, punctuated by warm hospitality, cold beverages and the best freshly cooked, hot meals prepared by volunteers on short (read NO) notice, you'll find anywhere.

When most race committees would have given up on Saturday when faced with hours of absolutely no wind, PRO David Lee, wind and weather guru that he is, decided to persevere and the racers were rewarded with a race on Saturday. When dinner time arrived, but the caterer didn't, a group of incredible volunteers served approximately 150 hungry sailors in …
