Many of you know Tyler and Carrie as accomplished racers and trainers. We are indeed honored that they have agreed to join us and share their knowledge.
You can sample some of their training work and affiliations at the following link.

We are sad to note the passing of Brooks Zerkel on July 3, 2020. Having sailed with many of us and served as a highly qualified race official for major Club events and elsewhere for many years, Brooks was an active force in the life of FBYC, A more complete tribute to Brooks will appear in the next few days.
The ongoing pandemic has had a huge effect on the 2020 sailing season. Many regional events have been cancelled and others are undecided whether they will happen or not.
Fishing Bay Yacht Club is committed to hosting the Stingray Point Regatta this Labor Day Weekend although it will be in a modified format. We are challenged in providing great racing and a fun weekend while at the same time creating a safe environment for everyone. This is how we intend to proceed.
Saturday September 5 there will be multiple races around drop marks for PHRF, One Design and Cruising Classes.
Sunday September 6th there will be a distance race around government marks. The distance will be determined by the …
It was light, very light...the air that we sailed in. Brad Squires and company did a nice job getting us started downwind in a whisper and making a call to use the short course, 15 miles. Jon Deutsch took amazing pictures of the spinnaker boats as they left the starting area. They can be found here. Thirteen boats, in four classes, enjoyed an absolutely beautiful moonrise in a perfectly clear indigo sky. A glorious night to be quarantined on the Chesapeake Bay. Mayo Tabb and Excitation finished first in A with an adjusted time of 4h52m. Bob and Lisa Fleck, absorbing Hatter's new handicap, finished first in B and first overall with an adjusted time of 4h45m. Brad Miller …
As we move though the phased reopening, our primary goal remains to provide a safe and healthy environment for our members, staff and community. Numerous volunteers across all aspects of the Club have dedicated a tremendous amount of time in planning and preparation to get to this point. Many programs and activities are going forward this year, although maybe not quite in the same fashion as in years past.
But even as we begin to enjoy more of the reopening at FBYC, the environment around CoVid is changing. We are constantly reassessing how this affects our operations and activities. Rules and programs may continue to change as we move through the summer and fall. The key to success of these …
Please sign up via the FBYC website if you are planning to attend this weekend’s event. The long term forecast looks like we will have great weather featuring a nice breeze and moderate temperatures.
While we would normally have an FBYC sponsored picnic following the event this year we are encouraging people to bring their own items if they wish to cookout. The grills will be available and there will be tables and chairs set up to facilitate social distancing. We want everyone to enjoy the club facilities but we also want all of our members to feel comfortable while on the campus.

This is a new program, and will evolve to serve our needs over time.
It was a beautiful day to get back to racing for the Lasers, Radials and Flying Scots. 5 Scots sailed with a dozen Lasers and another 10 or so Radials in 4 races on sunny but cool day with light winds 9-12 out of the ENE. Lew Thatcher and the crew of Catitude headed up the Race Committee while Paul Almany was on station snapping some pictures.
As of this writing three boats from the Cruising Division are signed up to participate in a Delmarva circumnavigation, June 27th through July 3rd. Several others have expressed interest. The three boats so far are Bolero (Lindbloom/ Powell), C’mon Wind (Gregory), and Mood Sway (Moody). This will be a counter-clockwise trip, heading South East out of DVL, through the mouth of the Bay, and an overnight sail North to Cape May, NJ. Following a rest in Cape May the flotilla will progress up the Delaware Bay, arriving at the C&D Canal at a time calculated to motor through the canal, going with the current. (Sailing is not allowed on the 13-mile canal.) Near the Western end of …

The next Laser racing at FBYC will be with the Long Distance Race at 7/4 and the Laser Summer Regatta on 7/18.
FBYC Sailors have been active racing in socially distant races at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club with 36 boats and some very competitive racing. Results and write up: https://laserdistrict11.wordpress.com/2020/06/04/2020-nycc-spring-regatta-results/
Just as we are all used to anticipating and responding to the shifting breeze in Fishing Bay, the Flag, the Sailing Commanders, Chairs, our staff, and numerous volunteers are all at work to actively monitor and adapt to the dynamic environment driven by CoVid 19. As we move into June, with recommended safety measures in place, we will see racing extend beyond the virtual to the real, with Offshore, Juniors, and One-Design sailors competing on the water. For 2020, the Junior programs have been restructured around an exciting vision for Juniors to learn and enjoy sailing with appropriate safeguards.
As FBYC is committed to following the evolving guidance from the State of Virginia around group interactions, we are assessing actions …
In case you missed this on social media (and who doesn't need to take a break from facebook!)...
David and Veronica Hinckle's Perseverance dramatically recognized America's armed services members with this grand flag on Memorial Day. Not our usual celebration and start to summer, but perhaps a solitary boat flying the colors was most appropriate this year. This single post went viral--in the best of ways--garnering almost 5,000 impressions in just two days. FBYC also created quite a stir on the local Deltaville FB page and generated tremendous goodwill among our neighbors.
Thanks to the Flecks for capturing this impressive photo and to the Hinckles for a most memorable image. If you use the rule of an inch of …
Due to CoVid 19, at this time FBYC is not open to non-members for transient docking or boaters looking for reciprocal privileges. Consistent with Gowrie Group Best Practices for Sailing Organizations and the Virginia Marine Trades Association, FBYC dockage is for members only.
